Help! CPU fan isn't running.

so my cd burner program freezes up on me and when i come back upstairs i find my computer says CPU fan is not running. shut down? y/n

how do i tell if it is running? i know the power supply fan is running but im guessing the CPU one is different?

any help is appreciated, i don't want to fuck my computer.

Turn it OFFFF!

Your CPU will burn up. You need to replace the CPU fan immediately or get someone to do it for you.

(make sure the CPU fan is plugged in... it IS a different one.)

Jarmusch 11-27-2005 05:09 PM

You have to open to case to see if it's running, it's hard to miss it.

Thumbking 11-27-2005 05:11 PM

yeah, dude, your gonna burn out the cpu....

just open the case and see if its running... if not go and buy a new one...

pornguy 11-27-2005 05:12 PM

get a new one fast, and DONT run the PC until you do.

tony286 11-27-2005 05:14 PM

A very bad shut it down now

directfiesta 11-27-2005 05:17 PM

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Take a look or put your finger on the CPU fan while powered on ... You will feel it if its running....

I had that a few years ago during Xmas time, when my servers were actually in my place. No shop opened for spare parts, so I took ther cover off and shoved in a Bionaire air filter IN the computer ... Worked till I got a new fan... :2 cents:

If it's a Pentium and not AMD, it's ok. Wanna play Doom 3?

BlackCrayon 11-27-2005 05:29 PM

thanks guys. it is AMD actually but its off now. does it smell like its burning if its too hot? i don't mess around inside my computer very often so do you know where inside i can find it? and is it easy to replace? i've put pci cards and such in myself but thats about it.

Make sure to run around the house dragging your feet on the carpet for ten minutes first. :1orglaugh

mastgul 11-27-2005 06:48 PM

Scootermuze 11-27-2005 08:03 PM

If the dissipation plates are rather long, just open the side of the case and point a fan into it.. it'll blow the heat from the plates and all will be fine til you can replace the cpu fan.. Been there a couple times..

CC 11-27-2005 08:38 PM

Why does everyone on GFY feel the need to be an ass? I assume it's because they got swishies one too many times in high school or something like that. Who cares if the dude knows how to change a fan or not? Just because someone is a webmaster doesn't mean that they know hardware.

BlackCrayon 11-27-2005 08:39 PM

im just using my old pc for now. hope i didn't fuck anything up. it still worked fine when i shut it down. it ran for maybe 15 minutes i guess.

elitetec 11-27-2005 09:00 PM

happen to me just buy a new fan

Violetta 11-27-2005 09:06 PM

Just open it while its on and see if the fans are not running... Its not worse than that!

You mean you don't have the side cover off of it already? I have 3 runnin and don't even know where the covers are.. :)

reed_4 11-28-2005 12:43 AM

Better call a good technician to check what else do you need to replace.
