Today is the day that I quit drinking for good.

I'm over it. Doesn't do anything positive for me anymore and only makes me feel bad the next day. I really don't even like being buzzed anymore. Am I growing up or is it my body's way of telling me to give it a rest?

So after today, I will be on the wagon. :thumbsup

Babagirls 11-27-2005 10:37 AM

how old are you? (not being a smartass, im just asking.)

wallst 11-27-2005 10:37 AM

Yeah, I just got a membership at the local gym so I look to get my "buzz" there as well. :thumbsup

who 11-27-2005 10:42 AM

Yeah I recently joined a gym myself and have dramatically decreased my alcohol intake.

The only problem for me is that my roof got blown to pieces by a storm, and now the snow's set in. I have to go and live with my fiance's mother for about six months... I think it'll put me back on the bottle.

feN 11-27-2005 10:45 AM

I haven't quit, but I have cut waaaaaaaaaaaaay the fuck down.

As in a bottle of wine will generally last me two weeks, and I used to drink 2+ a night.

karlm 11-27-2005 11:00 AM

Same as me but im only 19. I have been drinking fairly hard since the age of 16 every fri and sat im bladered. I have seen lots of fights beetween friends. Waking up and not remembering a thing and just spending the hole day being paranoid about what i might of done, I still drink but not as much as usual. Btw im in the uk so have been drinking legaly for a year and a half

Hey Baddog. Can you explain the spike? Is that something that happens after you quit drinking or is it something different?

Violetta 11-27-2005 09:13 PM

Number of times people have said they will NEVER drink again the day after a wet night: 87432891287!

Do you think you can actually stop drinking Rob? I'm not saying that it would be strange or impossible. But I know from my own experience that a couple of days later, its all forgotten and a cold beer smells and taste like HEAVEN!

Good luck to you anyway!

Actually, I made that statement while I felt great and didn't have a drink the night before.

MikeHawk 11-28-2005 04:05 PM

Brother Rob....so glad that you might be listening to the "signals" most dont before its way way to late...

You are a person whom i really like, and at any time hit me up on icq...i have walked down the very same road you are now....i stopped Jan 17th 1989...and have not looked back since, that makes me 17 years sober this Jan.

Seems you are are at that great "crossroads" of life....

:thumbsup

SlickCash Brock 11-28-2005 04:26 PM

I will 100% agree with MikeHawk! He is a guy i consider a good friend! I too once made the same choice. I realized the same thing and made a decision. My last drink was almost 3 years ago. The life i enjoy today becasue of that decision I would not trade for anything! If you can realize your need to make a change Rob, you are one of the very lucky ones!

Bluewire Ross 11-28-2005 04:30 PM

To drink or not to drink. It's a choice. It's a decision. I'm a social drinker. So, maybe I drink 4 to 5 times a year!

Thank you for the kind words, Mike. They are very much appreciated.

I never thought I had a problem until the people around me that care about me started making comments. I figured a couple beers a night wasn't a bad thing but that led to more than a couple a night since my tolerance built up. It got to the point where I would drink 10 - 12 beers a night and not go to bed drunk. The signs were there and like you said, I'm lucky that I paid attention before it really got out of hand.

I will hit you up to chat, I haven't spoken to you in a while.

Thanks to everyone else that also lended support.

My partner used to say the same thing to me, he is a dried up broke weak suck that never made past his bar stoole. Booze, if a brother sees that he has a problem he is forever fucked, i was....cause if you are a "casual drinker, or social drinker" you dont have thoughts of wanting to stop, or its doing something to get in the way of your life etc.

I cheer Rob on, and its that kind of attitude from peope once in a while that just confirms once again what i am doing is right. Rob you will be totaly surprised at show just how many sober and non drinkers there are. Also there are some super very successful ones to boot.

The drinking drug thing...been there done that.....Yawn...weak.....me personaly its about doing something with my life..if i have a problem along the way, i kick the shit loose, booze or what ever that is....doing the same shit thinking you will get the sames results over and over there is a word for that its 'INSANE" :1orglaugh

So any way Rob hit me up i will give you a host of very cool heads in this biz that would love to chit chat with ya....there was someone there for me when i decided to stop...that is how it workd buddy...plus i like ya..the favor you did for us in FL i will never forget!

Your birthday so close to mine, and to one other on this board too, Casually or aka Caz from Oc3 networks, i met him over 10 years ago...and we have been soul brothers ever since.

He has same sober date and the exact same sober time as me, so he and i and you will all be turning 17 these next 2 months.....CONGRATS! :thumbsup

If I could drink like a 'normal person' I would be drinking as much as I could, all the time.

If you dont understand that then you probably arent an alky.... ;-)

That's cool as fuck, Mike!!! It helps to have people that you respect doing (or have been doing) the same thing. I know it's going to be tough because tonight was pretty rough. I drank about 10 bottles of water just to go through the motions and I know for a fact that I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight. If I do, it will be after 3 hours of tossing and turning. :(

I'm glad that you mentioned the shows and people being sober. My one fear is that I do a lot of social events and I don't know how I'm going to handle it. Drinking always took the "edge" off but now I'm starting to realize that drinking is what created that "edge" in the first place. Having a clear mind and conscience thought is where I want to be and I was never able to accommplish that because it was always clouded by alcohol.

Once again, I'm glad that I have someone that I respect to lean on and talk to...it really does help. A lot! Thanks!
