anyone here use WS_FTP?
 

Whenever I ftp the program will come into focus for each file it transfers.

So say I'm uploading 100 files, I can't work on anything else while it's uploading because ws_ftp will come into focus while it's transferring any any other windows will lose their focus.

Does that make sense?

anyone know how to setup ws_ftp to do it's thing in the background so i can work on other things?

when you upload an entire folder then it won't do it

That pisses me off as well.

If youre just wanting to upload a shitload of files and still work on something say, upload an entire directory of thumbs, while still edit html in dreamweaver and photoshop.... i recommend ftp explorer, it doesnt do everything, but its solid enough to upload hundreds of files at a time, while i keep photoshop, dreamweaver, and fireworks, open.... thats what I run daily... and if I understand what ya mean, hope this helps.

I have the same problem with WS_FTP - but it only happens occasionally..

I used to be a devoted WS_FTP user until I discovered FlashFXP.

that be the one. was going to say I have been using WS_FTP95 since 1996 with never a problem.

But yeah, if you do not set your options correctly, there could be a problem.

I'm using this program too from the beginning. What really sucks on it is that you can't set a MAX. of your used bandwith. WS_FTP is always using all my upload bandwith when I upload my stuff. Because of that surfing the web goes really slow. They need to change that

I just mail my host 5.25" floppy disks with the files and he puts them on the site.

Ive been using smartftp as well now for a couple years and like it too!

the only thing now after the last 2 updates it always defaults back to ascii mode each time you open the program.

I hate that shit, once i uploaded a huge wmv file like 250 megs and afterwards realized i uploaded it in ascii mode.
That sucked! :-(

I use WS FTP, and yup, that's annoying. The fix has already been posted.

But here's something else to look out for:

Make sure you set which file extensions are text or binary - it doesnt have many (only .txt i think) as the default. you may not want to upload your html or perl files as binary.

Am I the only one that uses Bullet Proof FTP ?

Excellent program! but I only upload files when I go to bed and let it go by itself. Just kidding it usually only takes a couple minutes so I use that time to ejoy a ****

i like cute ftp it works pretty well and with minimum problems.

www.cuteftp.com - is about the same interface as ws-ftp, but a lot better.

I used cuteftp and moved to ws_ftp because cute seemed to fuck up a lot. It remembers too much, in order to continue an upload that was interrupted, and sometimes it starts uploading things you don't want. I know, normally, cases are completely human error, but I swear this has happened on its own with no instruction from me. Perhaps it happened due to crashes, or something, but it just doesn't work all that well all the time.

On the other hand, I've never had a problem with ws_ftp - except for one thing - when you go to change the permissions of a file, it doesn't show you the file's CURRENT permissions settings, leading you to believe that the file's permission settings are whatever the default settings of the check boxes are... ARGH!
