my computer turns on itself.....
 

I think I've got ghosts at home, some nights when I am sleeping, my computer switches on itself and I wake up with windows logon midi... I thought maybe it is trying to tell me something so a few nights I woke up and sat in front of it....

I was expecting a big amount of money but dodgy bastard , nothing happened....

I'd check my CMOS settings and see if the auto on is set for some happening... power fluctuations are known to simulate some of what is needed for events to auto on systems. Might BE a ghost tho! :winkwink:

It may actually <b>NOT</b> be a power fluctuation to the power supply, but <b>RATHER</b> the minute power fluctuations that happen with the phone lines at times...

Most motherboards these days have an option in the CMOS for WAKEUP on Modem/Phone Ring etc... Well this fluctuation in the phone line,(sometimes you may even hear a slight "tink" sound from your phone, expect it to then ring and it doesn't, this was a fluctuation :)) may be enough to have your CMOS think that the phone rang and thus wake up your computer :)

Turn this off in your bios.

I'm not sure of all the tech talk to explain this but maybe this is the problem. There is a remote wake on lan feature that most computers have that allow your computer to be turned on/off etc from a remote location...maybe u can disable this in the bios and see if that helps...i highly doubt someone has hacked into your computer and is turning it on manually every now and then but shit you just never know...just a thought...

I had the same problem It was my power supply. The power supply is the weakest part of the computer for some reason. They cost around 30-100 dollars and arent hard to install.

I bet there's a genie in your computer :thumbsup

When I recently had power supply trouble it more resembled poultergeist :evil-laug

Mystery windows crashes [<font color="aqua">stop lol'ing - I mean <b>MORE</b> unusual ones</font>]

-weird freezing.
-dvd drives and cd burners spinning up and down when they should be dormant.[sleeping]
-cdrom and dvd trays OPENING & CLOSING by themselves.</font>

Took a while to work out what was the problem... [<font color="aqua">disconnecting and reconnecting devices etc etc</font>] for the problems MANIFESTed.. hehe... themselves over a few weeks, it wasn't happening all the time or all things at once when it did happen and me just waiting to see my monitor spin around 360 and spit green pea soup all over me :1orglaugh

Have a new AOPEN FSP300-60BT(12V) 300W in my system now and all my dvd, cd drives, burners and hdds be connected back up now and system is upclocked again and things be running like a dream :)

My Cd-Burner sometimes opens at night for no reason.
