How many bookmarks are real on TGP/MGP sites

There is a huge difference between a bookmarker and a no-referring hit yet most scripts counts them as the same thing.

How does one figure out how many bookmarkers are real!

Bookmark icon hits is one factor... putting the bookmark link going on another page iwth diff hits trackign is another way

Doctor Dre 11-26-2005 01:00 AM

I don't think there is a 100 % accurate way to track thoses

Buddy of mine suggested searching the full domain name here to find out how many a site has

bookmark icons (favicon.ico) doesn't work either.. firefox et al request those every time they hit a site, whether the user bookmarked or not, and whether they've been there before or not. every, single, time. kinda sucks. used to be a fairly good indicator, now its blown. =(

when you create a completely new site you will have about 18% noref traffic.
Since a new site won't have any bookmarkers you can assume that 18% of your traffic will always be noref even though it is comming from trades.
So just calculate the % of noref of your total traffic. Anyting above 18% are probably real bookmarkers

check your stats

elitetec 11-26-2005 07:14 AM

uhm all isnt it?

spacedog 11-26-2005 07:17 AM

I am guessing that bookmark traffic is actual surfers, whereas noref is more likely to be a hitbot, spider, etc. This is what I think, so don't take it as fact, as I am only guessing here.
