What is your screen resolution?

Do ANY webmasters/affiliates/etc. still actually use 800x600?

Maxy 11-25-2005 12:04 PM

Doubt it.

Downtime 11-25-2005 12:05 PM

I doubt it either, based off looking at stats countless times a day for god knows how many years now, I think 1024x728 is surfer standard. As far as webmasters go though, mine personally is much higher.

chodadog 11-25-2005 12:09 PM

If i were designing a website for webmasters, it'd definitley be optimized for 1024 wide. Very few still use 800, and people building webpages in 1024 might just be the kick in the ass they need to upgrade. It's actually a bit annoying to arrive at a webmaster page where space is at a premium and they've optimized for 800, when you consider just how few people still use it.

bangman 11-25-2005 12:10 PM

I still develop for 800x600, but I currently use 1280x1024.
The last time I saw some hard numbers on surfer screen res, I found that 70% of users would be able to see a site developed for 1024x768, with the remaining 30% using 800x600.

For the past couple years, new computers have come with a default of 1024x768, so that will be the standard soon. >800x600 is the majority today, and the numbers are decreasing.

fetishblog 11-25-2005 12:14 PM

I don't develop for anything under 1024x768. I currently use 1280x1024 with my l33t 19" LCD. :)

Here's what my surfers are using today:
1024 x 768 --> 50.00%
1280 x 1024 --> 24.43%
800 x 600 --> 12.64%
1152 x 864 --> 5.27%
1600 x 1200 --> 4.90%
Unknown --> 2.23%
640 x 480 --> 0.53%

TMM_John 11-25-2005 12:22 PM

Cool, we're doing a new "standard" template set for NATS to include. We're going to build it for 1024 i think.

beta-tester 11-25-2005 12:24 PM

800x600 is the history.
1280x1024 is the standard these days.

So I'm guessing you'd be unhappy with 1280 based standard NATS templates?

Personally I use 1280x1024 spanning 2 monitors...

Here's what my Preview server shows:

1024x768 57.8 %
800x600 16.4 %
1280x1024 11.8 %
1152x864 3.3 %
1280x800 3 %
1280x768 1.3 %
1400x1050 1.1 %
1280x960 0.9 %
1600x1200 0.8 %
1680x1050 0.6 %
Others 2.5 %

Here's what my members area(s) show:

1024x768 45.2 %
1280x1024 25.6 %
1280x800 5.2 %
800x600 5.1 %
1152x864 3.5 %
1600x1200 3 %

1680x1050 1.7 %
1920x1200 1.3 %
1280x768 1.2 %
Others 5.4 %

Obviously the members' area stats are going to be from a smaller sample, but it's interesting to note that the ones that are buying memberships seem to be more up to date. Makes me think that maybe it's time to bump even surfer site design up to 1024 instead of 800, 'cause it doesn't seem like the 800 surfers are buying as much. It'd be interesting to see similar stats from other paysites.

I have one screen on 800x600. Makes it easier to do reviews and design :)

used it only on web design, to see what it looks like.

Tuga 11-26-2005 08:29 AM

I think we should all drop 800x600 and start using 1024 as standard. That way we can actually force surfers to make the right move instead of waiting another couple of years for it to happen.

Slick 11-26-2005 08:33 AM

1600x1200 here, I was kinda forced into it when I bought my monitor and didn't realize that I was kinda forced into it because of it's ratio, but once I got used to it, I LOVE it.
