Managed/Unmanaged Servers
What's the main difference between managed and unmanaged dedicated hosting? Are unmanaged servers pretty easy to use for relatively simle stuff?
|
Unmanaged means the host does not setup software / maintain the applications that are running / trouble shoot and resolve technical problems.
Typically you are provided with an Operating System and a login. You would need to install Apache/PHP/MySQL and then ensure they are running properly including optimizations. Our managed service takes care of all that from: setup of the intial server optimization of kernel and system variables for high performance ( we have single machines doing over 300Mbps ) monitor the services running such as Apache/FTP/Email/SSH/DNS if our customers run into a script problem or such they can contact us 24/7 for help and generally being a life line of support That's the difference. |
