why did gas prices fall so much?

I just got back from filling my tank and was suprised to see premium for $2.14 per gallon but im wondering why the prices fell so much so fast especially with all the hurricanes?

directfiesta 11-24-2005 07:59 PM

False shortage ...

Inquiry in excessive profits of the gas gouging corp.

Supply & demand? Refineries back online? Simple really. Or believe the conspiracy theories.

bringer 11-24-2005 08:12 PM

no natural disasters this week to blame on 90 cent increases

yeah, thats why a month ago diesel, which is easier/cheaper to refine, was 20-30 cents a gallon more than premium

Oh, they finished the pipeline that runs from Iraq to Cheney's house and it's open for business. Finally the looting can begin.

I'm sure Halliburton must be involved somehow too

Just wait until the indictments fall! Should be any day now ...

On a unrelated note, banks are making a record profit every year and yet their service charges keep on going up. It's almost like they're running a business based on profit and are going to charge you what you'll pay. Sort of like they're trying to make as much as they can. God damned bankers.

<conspiracytheory>
Thanksgiving is the start of the big XMas buying time frame.. So lowering gas prices just beforehand means people will feel like they have more money to spend and so will now go out and buy buy buy.. gotta keep that economy going strong...

You really should try picking up a newspaper sometime. In the last quarter alone Exxon made almost $10 BILLION PROFIT. No company in the history of the world has ever made that much profit in 3 months. If that doesnt paint a picture of price gouging I don't know what does.

While there ARE some fundamental changes (ie., rise of India and China as massive oil consumers) that warrants the price rise, most of the sharp spikes in price is due to speculation.

You should do the same. Oil companies get a percent of the profit of what they pump out of these foreign owned wells. Not a big surprise that they are making more money on the same gallon of gas. Do you think the Saudis should keep it all? Maybe, we should applaud them for bringer huge cash to the USA?

Americans paying less for gas than any other industrialized nation and driving around in massive SUVs don't really draw that much sympathy.

Huh? Companies such as Exxon get a percent of the profit from oil pumped from a Saudi owned oil well? What the fuck are you talking about?

George got it to go down:

I like seeing average working joes driving SUV's that get 9mpg, spending 50% of their income on their car payment and then screaming how the gas company is screwing them.

Sorry to burst your bubble but there's not an SUV out there that gets 9 mpg. I have a lifted F250 and I get a little more than 9 pulling a 13,000 lb 5th wheel.

Rob 11-24-2005 10:02 PM

Did you catch the Congressional hearings where 3 Oil Tycoons (C.E.O.s) were caught in a blantant lie? This could be a good reason.

Like I said, it's hard for the rest of the world to have too much sympathy for Americans in this area .. We're cumatively used to paying more for gas, so it's nearly impossible to empathize.

Yea and they did over 100 Billion in sales so their profit was less then 10% which in the business world is just average !

You've been suckered by the press with this 10 Billion Profit line. There are many other fortune 500 companies making 30% - 40% profit but they don't sell gasoline or oil.
