Yea, it's not cool to kick people who are in this circumstance through no fault of their own.

I imagine the majority portion of retardation cases comes from genetics. However, nutrition, lead exposure, mother's diet, mothers' drug/ alcohol use, and other environmental factors also effect IQ.

My cousin is retarded, a rare genetic disorder. Having a retarded child is a huge burden on the parents. It puts alot of strain on the marriage too. It's a tough road, definitely not Karma related.

I believe in karma. Therefore, I can go around doing mean shit to people all day becuase they probably did something to deserve it.

i heard from some peeps that doctors can see when a chick is pregnant if the kid inside of her is healthy or retarded, even in a very early stage of pregnancy... if i would make a girl pregnant and the doc would say its gonna be retarded i'd be 100% pro abortion.

its hard to say, my friends dad is a general surgeon and his mom does something equally as grand, they have 3 kids, 2 super bright, one mentally handicapped, hard to argue genetics in that case.

I think that's what the amniocentesis (sp?) is for...to detect Down's Syndrome and the like. But by the time the baby is developed enough to have it done, aren't you too far along to abort?

I highly doubt they can detect most forms of retardation at any stage that they would still do an abortion.It would likely be beyond the range of an abortion.

Either way its sort of a silly statement because if you have ever known anyone who was mentall handicapped you would know they are fairly happy content people. It would be a huge burden for a parent , but i dont think you just murder people because they are a burden or we would just abort old people.

Ask your own parents, but my guess with you it's both.

I never said that, I only gave one instance where that occurs. That doesn't mean it's to be applied in every circumstance. If that were the case we'd all be standing out in the rain naked since nature didn't provide us with clothing and shelter

If you agree we should change "natural selection " by killing those who are a burden , then why not kill old people.. "nature" aborts fetuses all the time, it's called miscarriage. There are lots of them. And yes amniotic fluid tests for Down's Syndrome during pregnancy is exceedingly popular. There is actually a bit of a push to remind young people to do it as even though the % chance is higher for a 40 year old to have a down's syndrome kid, 20 year old mothers think they are safe and are not bothering with the test and there are more down's sydrome kids being born to young mothers than any other age group.

Not really, old people have paid taxes all their lives and built and supported the system that supports you and deserve support for the roads, hospitals etc they have built and provided for us. A potential life is just that... nothing.

my point was that introducing defective genes (i.e. the retarded fetus you're talking of) into the species is a part of natural selection. fortunately modern medicine has put man in a position to be able to predict these types of problems and prevent them from occurring. I don't see any value in populating the earth with more retards than necessary. I'm not saying they should be forced to be aborted but if the parents are for it and the fetus is definitely gonna be fucked up then why not. It's probably a better situation for every living person involved.

ya, theres a test to see if the baby has down syndrome or not but its a risky test (they through the wall of the uterus and take fluid from her sack).

Actually something like Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder, and because of that can be detected rather rapidly (with CVS, I believe they can detect it from the 9th week on, or something like that). In fact, in Germany, 90% of all fetuses diagnosed with Down Syndrome are aborted.

It's risk is fairly limited. CVS has a risk of fetal death of about .5%-1%, and amniocentesis has a risk of about .25%-.5%.

Doubt it, alot of people care for their retarded kid as if he/she was normal.

I agree no good parent will ever refuse their child just because they are slower then the rest, or have some mental issues.
