returned checks... what do you do?

Every once in a while I get some jackasses sign up using a check then cancel the check within a few minutes. And When it happens I get like 3 in a row. All within minutes of each other.

I would rather disable checks but they do account for a lot of signups.

My site is a straight up join. no trials. but I think these guys are making their own trials

What do you do to stop that from happening?

tony286 11-23-2005 07:52 PM

wts bank cut that down greatly

phonesex 11-23-2005 07:52 PM

redshoe, I get a lot of chargebacks from checks when I promote LoveDollars.com. I'd prefer that they stop taking checks in order to prevent it.

Checks suck . . . don't like them at all.

RedShoe 11-23-2005 08:11 PM

Well.... shit.

I just take it as part of doing business. I send them a nasty gram and tell them they have been added to the negative database.

some people have actually wrote me back asking for a mailing address so they can send me the money. I dont even bother

NoWhErE 11-23-2005 09:12 PM

Ban their IP maybe? That will show them that they can't fuck around too much

Wow! now you got the clue!

When ppl do retarded things on the interwebs, we just need to ban their ips and they will stop!

Yo R.Shoe, I meant to tell you this over ICQ... A lot of times they use Proxies and programs to break our sites. Then when they break it. Like that EXACT URL I sent you. You'll never know that 100s of cats is logging onto your site. They use a different script to block out there IP addresses. And to crack a site. They use a program with a wordlists that runs 1000's of potential username/passwords that can gain entry to a site. I'll suggest getting something to fight off them hackers. Cuz IF you don't have no security. They WILL gain entry and SHARE the password. I do lil undercover work, and when I saw them promoting "if you want "racknbump" website. Holler at me... I was like "NO", That's Redshoe's site. A lot of cats logged into your site giving props before I came along... When they sent the login info to me. I contacted you. But they stated the passwords was working ever sense you opened the site... PLEASE tell me you got some security to fight off those bastids? I suggest "Strongbox"... If multiple visitors log in using the same password... Strongbox disables password... But I'm thinking you knew this already... :pimp

Exactly :) In addition, you don't pay processing fees for returned checks with WTS (which is why they send them through at least twice, have an inhouse collections group, etc.) :thumbsup

What do you do to stop that from happening?

That's one of the sweet perks of working a day job for a major credit card company - having input access to TransUnion, Equifax and Experian credit bureaus throughout the day.

Amazing how an accidental slipup on the keyboard can really wreak havoc with someone's credit rating.

Not that I would do that, of course.
