Hybrid Supercar? Lambo-Eater? Ferrari-Killer?

http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/future/volta.html

Quote:

"In 1800, Alessandro Volta arranged zinc and copper discs in a column and invented the battery. 204 years later, Toyota has electrified automotive history with the first high-performance hybrid, named in his honor. The Giugiaro-designed carbon-fiber body seats three people abreast and features "drive-by-wire" controls, allowing you to position the steering wheel and pedals in front of any one of them. And the Volta's 408-hp Hybrid Synergy DriveŽ (a 3.3-liter V6 with an electric motor for each axle) not only delivers 435 miles on a 13.7-gallon tank, but 0-60 acceleration in a mere four seconds. Somewhere, Count Volta is smiling."
Perhaps it's the nextgen Supra.

Still a concept car... not bad at all.

Young 11-22-2005 01:40 PM

Awww so they finally gave this thing a name. Everyone thought it was gong to be next Supra or the next Lexus Supercar.

Sam Granger 11-22-2005 01:40 PM

Don;t like it personally but never been a big fan of asian cars. Supra is the only one i like.

Young 11-22-2005 01:41 PM

The car would look 1,000,000 better re-badged as a Lexus. Just something about that Toyota logo.

SilentKnight 11-22-2005 01:41 PM

Ugh - styling abortion.

Taboo 11-22-2005 02:03 PM

yeah, definitely needs another badge or a new "marque" perhaps. a few changes here and there and it'll do. unless I can buy a Zonda in a couple years, a hybrid that looks like that would be amazing.

Triple 6 11-22-2005 02:20 PM

WOW.... the looks arent THAT bad, and i would surely deal with them considering the gas mileage and performance that car is pushing ---- holy fucking shit. The future of cars is definetely hybrids.

chodadog 11-22-2005 02:22 PM

I don't like the look, but at least it's prettier than the Bugatti.

Project-Shadow 11-22-2005 03:04 PM

Its a very interesting design, wouldn't mind driving one of those.

loverboy 11-22-2005 03:11 PM

would still go for a Ferrari

:smokin

phonesex 11-22-2005 03:12 PM

interesting car....

rezdesign 11-22-2005 03:12 PM

i would love this to be the MKV supra... but i still love my MKIII. :thumbsup

tony286 11-22-2005 03:13 PM

very cool looking car

Vlad 11-22-2005 03:14 PM

not that fast for electirc car

http://www.acpropulsion.com/tzero_pa...erformance.htm

MrIzzz 11-22-2005 03:15 PM

to be able to get that kind of mileage and that kind of horsepower out of a V6 hybrid is absolutely amazing. and i actually love the styling of it.

Vlad 11-22-2005 03:15 PM

t-zero made in 98-99

Furious_Male 11-22-2005 03:16 PM

Still a concept car. Have to see what it looks like if it ever really rolls off the assembly line.

tornell 11-22-2005 03:40 PM

wow .. sweeet

Nysus 11-22-2005 03:43 PM

They really should start a new brandname for that car.. heh. Toyota just doesn't suit it..

Matt

well...thats what Toyota has Lexus for.

smack 11-22-2005 03:51 PM

i hope they don't change the looks of the production model too much, that thing is pretty damn hot looking.

i wouldn't mind having a 400+ hp car that got 30+ mpg. :)

The Captain 11-22-2005 04:02 PM

I think its a pretty pimp looking car 31 mpg is fuckin great too

but they should launch a brand new marque with that car. or sell it as a SCION.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Toyota needs an high-performance marque beyond LEXUS... but then again, I hope it is a SCION so everyone can afford it. maybe price it at 20K like the Pontiac Solstice. :) wishful thinking. it'll probably be a 100K+ supercar to compete with NSX, Gallardo, etc.

Big Red Machine 11-22-2005 04:49 PM

Thats Wild it could pass for a Lambo with the Toyota emblem taking off

jt420 11-22-2005 04:52 PM

that car looks super hot. I saw leave it as a toyota and screw the whole lexus badge crap, thats just a way to make Americans feel like they are buying a better product when its a fucking toyota either way.

Thomas1007 11-22-2005 04:54 PM

Nice looking car definately :thumbsup
but the logo throws me off
:2 cents:

Taboo 11-22-2005 04:55 PM

I love how they plastered the whole thing with Toyota emblems. the ones by the rear window are overkill.

I'll bet if someone photochopped the Toyota emblems off and put a Ferrari/Lambo emblem on, most people wouldn't guess it's a Toyota.

You're the exact reason why they have the Lexus badge here in North America.

emthree 11-22-2005 05:39 PM

Needs to be debadged, no one wants to see a toyota symbol all over a supercar

giftedtwisted 11-22-2005 05:40 PM

Not edgy enough.

the rear deck is also a little strange, maybe its the fact that it looks like the backl of a monza station wagon from the 70's

newbreed 11-22-2005 05:42 PM

I think the important question here is what does Chuck Norris think of it?

Agreed 100%. Some commentators are saying KEEP the high price of oil (See Charles Krauthammer, etc). The reasoning is that it will help WEAN people off expensive gas guzzling/inefficient cars and onto hybrids and the next generation of super efficient cars. All this WITHOUT government mandates and strong arm tactics. They reason that the CONSUMER is better at effecting REAL CHANGE in the market than the government. For an example of this dynamic, see the history of AIRBAG adoption in the US. Although the govt was trying to push it along, it was the CONSUMERS' demand for mandatory airbags that got this going and the price per unit started dropping.

Downtime 11-22-2005 06:10 PM

fuckin ugly, pretty cool though!

pornguy 11-22-2005 06:14 PM

That is a bad ass looking car, and of the numbers are right, it proves that a LOT more can be done with the Hybrids than has been by the american companies.

Papi Chulo 11-22-2005 06:23 PM

Considering that it's Toyota behind it, I'll bet this hybrid will give a Porsche a run for it's money, though they may consider to keep the Toyota version tame to justify the cost of the Lexus version with the extra ponys.

PixeLs 11-22-2005 06:37 PM

Oh my, I can only afford a matchbox size of that killer rides..

Alex 11-22-2005 06:39 PM

Fuck hybird.

If you can shell out 400k for a lambo you can afford the gas.

:1orglaugh but the money a hybrid-owner saves on gas, he could probably buy
the Lambo.

.

edgeprod 11-22-2005 07:41 PM

That thing is so fucking ugly, it makes my eyes bleed.

Toyota? Why be so pathetic .. it's like all the Lexus (cough, Toyota) drivers.

I dont think you can save 130k worth of gallons of gas with a hyrbid.

And thats at $3 a gallon. It costs less in other states

Pornwolf 11-22-2005 08:21 PM

That's a hot car. If it's under $40k it's worth it, if not buy a luxury car. Gas is only $2 again.

reed_4 11-23-2005 02:07 AM

I love the car design, they can be used in one of James Bond's movie.

True... and who'd own it long enough to save that much... but then again it is a Toyota and may last 10+ years.

so you got me there... maybe you can't buy a Lambo with the gas savings, but maybe a sub-Benz, Vette or Porsche. :winkwink:

I agree 100%. I actually made a post a few months ago titled "May the gas prices continue to rise".

:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup
