My car got broken into last night :( [PICS]
Last night my car, sitting in my apt complex with lots of light on it got busted into. They broke the driver side rear door window to get in and stole my stereo (~ $200) and busted up my dash. Oddly they didn't steal many of my CDs.
Here are the pics. http://www.recurcash.com/breakin/breakin1.jpg http://www.recurcash.com/breakin/breakin2.jpg http://www.recurcash.com/breakin/breakin3.jpg http://www.recurcash.com/breakin/breakin4.jpg http://www.recurcash.com/breakin/breakin5.jpg I made a police report and they offered to come out and "lift fingerprints" but I declined - I mean, whats the chances of them catching these guys. Another car 3 spots over also got hit, sitting in a covered spot with tons of light on it. My car is a 2001 Hyundai Elantra - I never woulda thought it'd be a target for this kinda thing, but I guess they wanted my $200 JVC aftermarket stereo. :( I dont have insurance on it, which sucks, only liability due to the age of the car. Anyone know how much this might run me to fix? :Oh crap |
i'm sure they're can't be that much wrong with it that, the whole center console is one piece and i'm sure they just knocked off the brackets that were holding it in place...
|
chances to catch them are minimal. :/
|
They only took the face plate?
|
Well, if they eventually catch them in the act and have a large amount of fingerprints collected from them from different acts then you'd help get them a harsher sentence.. but it's a bit of a hassle for you.
Sorry to hear that happened to you. Matt |

It's a Hyundai, don't worry. You'll be able to buy a replacement car for $25.

Someone stole our CD player out of our truck a few months ago as well as about 3-5K worth of tools that my husband used for his work.....not to mention breaking the windows etc etc.
Well the CD player wasn't that big of a loss it was probably worth about 250 or so...but the TOOLS.....they were irreplaceable. My husband had a job making 20$ as a civilian contractor fixing tanks on an army base. THE NEXT DAY HE WENT TO WORK AND TOLD THEM HE GOT ALL HIS TOOLS STOLEN. THEY FIRED HIM ON THE SPOT! He hasn't been able to find a job since! It's been killing us. I understand what it feels like to get robbed. Not only did they rob our CD player, but they stole a big part of our well-being. He hasn't been able to find a job since! It had never happened to me before, and I used to think it never would (complacency). But it can happen to anyone. And we lived right accross the street from the county sherriff. Go figure. Thief had some nuts! |
damn that sucks.
|
Put some big treble hooks on leader line and attach them behind the stereo and under the dash. When they reach their hand in to pull wires out they won't be so quick at getting their hand back out. You may even find them there in the morning.
Consult your attorney before performing these tasks though :) |
that sucks big time! those thieves never know what's waiting them in doing so much trouble in other's lives. if we can't be able to fight them back, HE will !!! :)
|
Time for a visit to the auto wrecker. Thats what I would do.
go and buy the parts from the wrecker and do the work myself. not sure what it would cost there but here that back window would go or less than $30, and the console is a different story, probably around $150. So for me around $180 plus the window installation kit. |
Bummer that certainly sucks.. sorry to hear.
|
well people who know about that take the stereo panel with them when they park the car and keep it clean ..(like dont like 10k cash on the sits stuff like that )
sorry to hear that man i hope you will learn the lesson for the next time |
Hey all, thanks for your kind support. never thought'd I'd get it on GFY! :thumbsup
But, the center console has a nice crack in it but it pops back in. I dont think im gunna replace it - it'll hurt me at resale time but its a hyundai, so I don't think it'll be too bad :( Glass guy "mobile service" is on the way - $120 was the quote, so I can't complain. Stereo faceplate $100 from JVC, and there isn't any on ebay so I'll just have to take the loss. $220 total + wasted time on phone etc. Oh well, Could be worse but whatcha gunna do. |

I think these people should be castrated
|
never leave the faceplate there
even better get a kenwood that closes faceplate when powers shut off, they cant open it without a special remote faceplates are big money |

You are lucky. My buddy had his car stolen. They partially stripped it when they got spooked and fled. They got the wheels, the stereo, the nitrous, the amp, the box, they cut all of the wiring in the engine compartment, took the cruise control box, cold air intake, header and exhaust and almost got the engine out too. His hydraulic lines were cut and it rained in the car too i think and got everything wet.
Get this, he didn't have insurance. He paid his policy online a day before cancellation. He thought he was okay. His insurance company posts online payments two days after receipt making his payment a day late. Enough lateness to cancel the policy which he did. They sent him a letter which he didn't open. Two weeks later his car is stolen and he calls to make the claim they tell him that he has no policy in effect and that it was cancelled. They said it posted a day late and there was nothing they could do. Told him he was S.O.L. Sucks right? Well..... He argued with them and they said that's their policy. He brought up the point that they accept the postmark in this case as the send date but he paid it, the day before ON THEIR website and THEY take two days to process it. They said, "hmm, good point, but the fact is you have no insurance." He sent this up the chain, the right person took a hold of his account and got him his money for it. They aren't totalling the car, instead they are repairing it. Since he's had this car, a 2000 Honda Civic Si Coupe, he's had it broken into 6 times and they've attempted theft 3 times with only 1 successful getaway. Sucks. |
fuckers... i know a friend who had his car broken into and stereo stolen twice, so he decided to fit lots of inverted razor blades into the console behind the stereo, when they broke in again, he woke up one night to his car been broken into, the guy had cut his hands open - my friend had a shotgun and threatened to shoot him up!!
my friend also likes to exaggerate so not sure how much of that story is bs :) |
Never get complacent in a gated community! We got jacked in a gated community too....with the sherriff right accross the street. I thought we were safe too.
I don't leave shit in the vehicles anymore. |
shit that sucks man, hope they get fucked for it.
|
That sucks man, mine got busted into when I was in Vegas a couple years ago...forgot to take the faceplate off.

Most of this stuff happens because lowlife thieves make it happen. Saying it happens because people leave valuables around makes it sound as though its the victim's fault. Years ago we had an exact same B&E happen to us with a '92 Olds Cutlass. Parked in our driveway...in a quiet, upscale residential neighbourhood. Thieves smashed the rear driver's side window to gain access, then tore the Pioneer head unit out of the dash despite the fact I had the faceplate inside the house. They ripped the back seat out, and lifted the trunk-mounted amp and pair of 6x9s from the rear deck. They'd also managed to back some of the screws out from the front component speakers, but either got interrupted or decided they didn't want them. Then they went next door and did the same to my neighbour's car. Luckily, I had insurance coverage for the damage and loss of audio gear...but it was a pain in the ass dealing with repairs, new installation, etc. There were no 'valuables' in plain sight. The car (old & rusted 4-door family sedan) didn't have 'target' written on it. Short of not having ANY audio gear installed, there was nothing much more that could've been done to prevent the theft. |
that fuckin sucks man, i'm sure they'll catch the guys
|
that sucks!!!
|
Harsh man Very harsh
|
that really sucks..
|
Hope you had insurance.
|
yep i guess alarm systems should not be an option
|
Thieves suck! And thanks to a little angel though, I have a happy ending to this story. A little angel of mine is hooking my husband up with some tools so he can get his job back. The job said they might hire him back, and at 20$/hr for being a mechanic you can't beat that.
Plus those guys work on the tanks that our soldiers overseas use. My husband is only 1 in about 8,000 people in the country certified to work on those and he loves it because he feels good thinking he can help make them safer. ANYWAY BACK TO HIGH QUALITY, I HOPE YOU FIND THE BASTARDS WHO DID IT AND DID YOU FILE A POLICE REPORT? |
oh man that's the worst thing that could happend
|
oh man that's the worst thing that could happen. the looters struck again
|
wash that fucking steering wheel
holla |
sorry to hear about that man.
|
Someone broke into my car the other night
didn't even steal anything. And about a year ago my back window got busted out, but they didn't steal anything that time either. I think in that case I pissed someone off. I've been through 5 drivers side windows. I think I need to move out of the hood! |
