I'm using 2 maxtors and 1 WD at the moment. I have had 1 Maxtor die on me in the past, it's all luck of the draw at the end of the day.

I'm running a Maxtor DiamondMax 10, 300GB 16MB Cache SATA drive in my office PC and it works like a charm. Very fast..

I was always told by my computer nerd friends to always stay away from Maxtor drives. Didn't believe them. Had one die on me last year, and the replacement they send you is a referbished. Lame. Stick with WD or Seagate. That's all I'll buy from now on.

Funny how everybody has different story when it comes to harddrives. I've used loads of brand in the past... Seagate, WD, Maxtor, you name it I used it. The only brand that never crashed on me is Maxtor and I haven't bought anything else for years now. :thumbsup

I would have bought the 500 but it wasn't released (I think) when I purchased this one back in July..

Nysus 11-22-2005 06:15 AM

You can be lucky and not have a single problem, or you can have your harddrive destroy itself and its contents... just make sure to back it up.. Maxtor has a good reputation, and my Maxtor drives are fine, though I have heard of a few people who've had troubles.. Just backup stuff and you won't ever cry.. :)

Mr. Mojo Risin 11-22-2005 06:23 AM

Maxtors suck. Get Seagate

woj 11-22-2005 06:28 AM

It's just luck of a draw, I don't think the reliabilty of the HDs from different manufacturers differs much...

You're better off with SATA, than with ATA133 though..

u-Bob 11-22-2005 06:44 AM

I never had a Maxtor crash on me.
Had tons of problems in the past with WD, never had any problems with Maxtor.

Sosa 11-22-2005 08:02 AM

Maxtor's were never cool

Screaming 11-22-2005 08:06 AM

They are pretty cheap.

BitAudioVideo 11-22-2005 08:37 AM

most of the seagate's have a 5 year warrantee, compared to 1-3 years on maxtor and wd

CE_BigB 11-22-2005 08:40 AM

Maxtors last for 3 yrs MAX....

I would go WD or Seegate or anything KMart sold before Id go Maxtor

just my :2 cents:

I agree... I would go with seagate.

SilentKnight 11-22-2005 09:23 AM

Had a 2 yr-old Maxtor (60gb) die on me a while back. Replaced it with two 80gb Western Digitals on a raid mirror. Never had a repeat problem.

Might've been built on a Friday, who knows. But I've switched allegiance to WD these days.
