A Good SE Question For The Smarties Out There!

If you have a page that is getting great SE traffic would it be wise to make another page with exact same content and use a different URL trying to get that 2nd page to pick up even more SE traffic?

I wanted to keep the content the exact same along with the keywords and description tags. Just change the title a slight amount and give it a different .html file name.

Would this help in getting that 2nd page hit by some SE traffic and then I'd have 2 pages generating good SE traffic or would it hurt the ranking of the 1st page and maybe the 2nd as well?

Thanks for the advice!

It would hurt

No you dont want to do that. it is SE Spamming.

Yup... it could even slash the other pages rank.... IMHO :2 cents:

Ok, I'll forget that idea and hope that I keep receiving lots of good SE traffic to my 1st page.

if its the same content, you could even get the 2'nd domain sandbagged...

Just do what you did with the other page in another realm or method. :thumbsup

Good way to get banned from yahoo and probably google.

don't duplicate content

So, I could make another page with different url, keywords, description and also some different content and it would be considered like a totally new page? Maybe consider it like a part 2 of the series type of page and it wouldn't look like a carbon copy of the 1st page...

You may find out that simply trying to duplicate success doesn't work. If it did, everyone would just copy + paste from the #1 result for big keywords.

Another pitfall is *how* you got the good ranking may not be what you think. I have blogs that rank high for good k/ws with very little attention paid to actual in-page SEO. In their case, success is likely due to keeping the new posts consist with the theme, constantly adding content, slowly adding good/relevant inbound links.

That would be the right way to do it :)

It's funny because I'm not linking to other sites within the page and nobody is linking to me. Is it more luck and the way the page is designed that I'm getting like 1000+ Yahoo uniques per day?

emthree 11-21-2005 05:29 AM

That's a pretty dumb fucking question.
You might as well clone those 10 pages on 10 other domains.

Seriously though, keep the content unique even if you choose to keep similar propperties.
also: Yahoo is weird like that. They even list my dymanic scripts.
