The 2003 Ragsdale trial represented the Republican administration?s opening salvo in a war on adult pornography that has not been seen in more than 25 years, when President Ronald Reagan?s Attorney General was Edwin Meese III, legal experts say and prosecution statistics show. The importance of the Ragsdale case to Washington?s newest enforcement ?war? was underscored by the direct involvement of prosecutors from a special justice department Obscenity Task Force in the nation?s capital.

Soon enough, jurors in Dallas will be asked to watch sex videos depicting defecation, piercings and acts of simulated torture. One Dallas prosecutor quipped that jurors would be given barf bags for the next trial.
In addition to the Ragsdale conviction, the U.S. Attorney?s office in Dallas has obtained indictments against a trio of other sellers of simulated rape and sadomasochistic videos, including Nevada resident Thomas Clarence Gartmen, who once partnered with the Ragsdales. They face trial early next year in Dallas.

Hustler Magazine magnate Larry Flynt said he believes he?ll be next in the administration?s gathering war on pornography. And he told CBS 11 in an interview recently that he and his team of lawyers are ready and eager.
