What good is PR?
 

It hasn't done me a bit of good that I can tell.

I know a high pagerank helps you get high pagerank on other sites but... pagerank isn't traffic. So what good is it?

PR ain't worth a wank unless you want to sell a site to a newbie who might be impressed by a decent PR.

Any time spent worrying about PR is time wasted. A good PR might help you get more targeted traffic from Google and that's no bad thing, but if you're relying on Google referrals to support your business then something's wrong.

It used to be PR4, now it's PR2. I haven't noticed a difference in visitors from search engines.

get a pr10 site , then you will understand what good pr is..

having a pr4 site amongst 8 million other pr4 sites for the same keyword , isn't going to help you much. Get a pr6 amongst the 50 other sites with pr6 for that keyword then you will understand how it helps..

So most likely the case is when you were a pr#4 you were #400,000 out of a million other pr#4's now your a #750,000 out of 5 million other pr#2's

Like if your in #213 spot for a keyword , the amount of hits difference between # 167 spot and #313 spot is very small

If you are relying on the PR display on the Google toolbar - then it means nothing whatsoever in your rankings
That said - if you can figure out what your "real" PR is - which is impossible without having someone that knows what they are doing look at the whole site and your linking structure as well as the whole support structure around your site (which BTW - very few advertised SEOs have any clue about) - then that would be of some help - but not much other than to tell you where to improve certain things on your own site and linking with other sites.
More important in the overall scheme of things is the improvements you can do yourself adding more content (text is content in the SE world) to more pages and making sure everything links correctly - will do wonders for your keyword/phrase rankings :)
