Sweet, Iran has the map to a nuclear weapon

http://today.reuters.com/news/newsAr...archived=False

And they went public with it to the U.N.

Like a big "fuck you"

Apparently their back to enriching uranium into a gas, that could either be used for a reactor, or a bomb.

Now if you're sitting on 100 years of oil, why build a reactor now?

How long will it be until the u.s. or israel launches a pre-emptive nuclear strike on Iran?

USA has a 100% probability that they will use nuclear weapons within the next 15 years.

Israel has 2% probability.

Stupid humans.

Allright - enriching into a gas :1orglaugh - well I can tell you they will never build a bomb of even a reactor if they are enriching it to a gas - ya need solid enriched Uranium to start with and it gets turned into plutonium that is used for a bomb - which is also very solid - and no gas in the process.
If they are using it for a nuke plant it gets enriched somewhat - way below what you would need for a bomb - (which is why you could never have an atomic explosion at a nuke plant contrary to what the press would have you believe) and you still need it in solid form - as a matter of fact if it were a gas it would break the cladding around the fuel when it was heated and simply clog up the reactors water channels used for boiling the water to steam for electrical generation turbines.

A Gas? Hmm. No. They are enriching it into weapon grade uranium. They have the capability to do it. But I don't think they are advanced enough to put it into a warhead or even detonate it.

Linkster 11-18-2005 04:48 PM

Unless they have an operating breeder reactor already running - they do not have the capability of enriching it to weapons grade uranium. Now if they have a University with a good breeder reactor in Iran - first off - the IAEA doesnt know about it - and second - the US would already be sabotaging it cause once you have the technology to enrich the Uranium - that is the only other thing you need.

Note - You have to have an operating nuclear reactor to enrich Uranium

pr0 11-18-2005 04:52 PM

I've got no idea where the gas thing came from, but it was in the article. Maybe you can tell me what a gas form of uranium would be usefull for.

Linkster 11-18-2005 05:03 PM

OK - just to kinda correct myself as there are two processes that you can enrich Uranium with that do convert the U to a gas and then back to a liquid and then to a solid - we do it at two plants in the US - but its used to form enriched Uranium for nuke power plants - there is also a centrifugal process (remember all the talk about centrifuges that turned out to be Saddams aluminum rocket parts) - where they spin the vapor from basically boiling the Uranium - so that the heavier parts get separated from the lighter parts - and then filtered to make the enriched Uranium.

The process is called gas diffusion - when I was talking about the enrichment in a reactor that would be creating plutonium which is a more likely component of a weapon - but it is possible to make a weapon with the enriched (enriched way higher than we do for nuke plant fuel) uranium

Sorry for the original kinda misleading stuff as I just didnt have my thinking cap on straight
