Where the fuck does one find the best programmers in the world?

I've searched everywhere, Elance, Scriptlance, Rentacoder, Programming message boards, whatever.......can't find that one visionary I'm after.....where is he? (or she....just to be fair to the ladies)

Willing to give good $$ to someone who can refer me to a reliable, god like web developer.

You are looking in all the wrong places, all you will find on those sites are selllouts that can't even code properly.

Rep 11-17-2005 09:48 PM

Monster

Try someone with a degree and a few years experience.

edit:

Also, when searching it helped us to include the phrase "looking for someone who not only considers _______ a job, but also a hobby" and make sure they have passion in what they do.

Amen to this thread..,

I will pay for good help, but i think people generally expect to much this industry.

Impress the hell out of me.. don't sell me.

Like any other line of work... the best ones are either way to busy, or snatched up by some company and paid very well to be exclusive.

Good luck though.

fuzebox 11-18-2005 03:03 PM

You want good and you've been checking scriptlance and rentacoder?

lol.

Morgan 11-18-2005 03:07 PM

Word of mouth, man. Word of mouth. I have a couple I use but they're too busy with my projects for me to refer them.

The key to finding a good outsourced programmer--clarity of communication and the ability to cover 'gray areas.' Gray areas are contingencies brought into play by specs. A good prorammer anticipates them and puts them under your control.

Crypt 11-18-2005 04:07 PM

Scriptlance is the worst place to find real programmers

Hornydog4cooter 11-18-2005 04:11 PM

They are very hard to find . Like NichePay - StuartD said". the best ones are either way to busy, or snatched up by some company and paid very well to be exclusive."

Took me 5 years to find my guy :winkwink:

Good luck.. a decent reliable programmer is like 1:1000

rickholio 11-18-2005 05:29 PM

The true godlike codesmiths are all comfortably situated by now. It's very very rare when you cross paths with one that isn't either exclusively employed by someone, or has been enriched to the point where they have right of refusal on any new work.

There's always the opportunity to pick up the up-and-comers whiling away the time in university or college, filling a seat just long enough to get the mark they want and doing their own thing in the meantime.

I must say I'm a bit curious... what is it that you need done so's to require "the best programmer in the world"? The vast majority of what gets done in this industry these days is pretty pedestrian stuff, even in the innovative areas (the ideas may be innovative, but the code is still straightforward).
