Posting Contests - Love 'em or Hate 'em

Since I just won my first posting contest, I have a whole new outlook. So I wondered what the masses thought of them.

Are they strictly for post whores? Are they too complicated? Same people always win? As a sponsor, are they worth it?

Inquiring minds want to know.
