test downlod speed off different locatiosn in the world?
 

do you guys know of a good site that will let me bench two different hosts and see who's testfiles are downloading the fastest overall from a bunch of different locations in the world? IE see who has the best speed and reliability overall

Go to http://www.traceroute.org/ and run traceroutes from different parts of the world.. It will give you an idea how different networks reach your host.

You can also go to http://www.fixedorbit.com/search.htm and look up a hosts AS number to see who they are connected to (peering & transit)

heh, one of the host I need to test is on RIPE not ARIN so I can't check with the last url I don't think...

nothing more intuitive than doing tracerts randomly? like a ring of servers all downloading the file from 100 different locations and returning some info ?
