Do any of you know anyone who's ever won the lottery?

Did they completely change? take off and never hear from them again?

did anyone ever actually donate anything to charity like most people like to think they would...

did they break off their friends a little chunk, or become really private people??

all these threads about lotteries have got me wondering what exactly happens to people when they go from having nothing, to having everything so fast

t-minus 5 minutes before someone tries to act funny and mentions winning a 2 dollar scratch and win

Hrmmm ... with 3000 $ a month, you still gotta have a job, otherwise, you'll find life pretty fucking boring ... after rent + food + car + insurence etc etc etc there isn't much left for hobbies.

yah i can't see 3000 a month really changing a person too much... its just like getting a higher paying job.. not gonna drastically change the person :2 cents:

though that would be fucking cool... 3000 would easily cover all your expenses, so whatever money you make working, you can spend on whatever.... future expenses... vacations etc :thumbsup

I have won small amounts, but never anything over about 200 at any given time. I do know some guys that won a big pot, and split it. 7million each. They all quit their jobs, and vanished.

baddog 11-13-2005 06:14 PM

I knew a guy that won $1 million, twice, with the Calif Big Spin.

He remained the same from what I could tell, but I only knew him from a working relationship. Plus it was only a couple mill, how much can that change you?

i've known a couple people who won the lottery. an older couple won - he retired and they bought a modest house in the valley. otherwise no change, and i have idea if they donated anything. my old accountant won but it didn't change him - he already had money, but seemed pretty happy to win.

I'm a cheapskate and think that the money will not get to where it's supposed to anyways so I wouldn't. But that lotto winner did give to charity yes.

They where and remained private people. It's really the people around them that changed a lot.

That couple divorced a few years after their win but that, without a doubt would have happened with or without winning the lottery. One thing to notice is that it's not them that changed but the people around them. Consequently, they where seeing them as being different when they really where not.

I know two different familys that have won over a million each. First family moved and I really don't know what happened to them to be honest. But a million is not really that much especially if they moved into an alright home.

Second family paid off the house, saved some money, bought the kids new cars, and some of those kids kinda got fucked up and quit school for about a year then came back to finish after realizing its not gonna get them anywhere.

My old middle school teacher won Powerball. She was 70ish at the time and forgot to choose the cash option. She took it to court and they were able to give her the lump sum.

She has never been married. I occassionally see her driving a new car.

reed_4 11-13-2005 08:25 PM

I some people who won the lottery but I doubt it if they really gave some to charitable institutions.

3k tax free, is like 50k a year, not bad at all...
about half the people in the US make less than that...
