SuicideGirls - More drama / Final update

If you thought that these guys weren't complete assholes already -
See what they think of affiliates on their private boards.
This was passed onto me by a kind soul.

[RE: CUTEGOTHS.COM] It's not SG sanctioned, it's been reported to the
appropriate staff.
When finally called out on their affiliate program, WHICH THEY HAD NOT TOLD THEIR GIRLS ABOUT...

Quote:

It is still in it's earliest phase and we are
still experimenting. We do not want it to be sleazy in
any way. We are in the process for devising the rules
for what can and can not be used and ways to describe
the site, the girls etc. Cutegoths has signed up for
the affiliate program but they're not following our
directions and are making it seem sleazy
Quote:

And if you notice any sites like CuteGoths that are
making SG seem sleazy or not representing us right,
please continue to let us know - just email Miss
ViquiV

Quote:

We have very specific guidelines written about how you
can promote SG, it just seems like people are ignoring
them or they are not specific enough - that's where
ViquiV comes in. Any syndicated content (RSS feeds) is
fair game, but profiles and members-only journals
(they are syndicated but only show up with a log in
message) are not. Writing degrading captions for
photos is not ok. Portraying the site in an insulting
manner is not ok.

Part of ViquiV's job is to look after this affiliates
thing and make sure it's being used right - obviously
there are some people who are not using it right so
please email her if you find anything unsavoury
bearing our names and pictures.

Sebastian Sands 11-12-2005 08:38 PM

Quantum, hit me up I have some content spread over some of my sites with goth girls.

dozey 11-12-2005 09:00 PM

SG models are PAYED to get naked so men and women can rub themselves while looking at picture / movie content.

"Writing degrading captions for photos is not ok"
"they're not following our directions and are making it seem sleazy"

Hypocrisy, anyone?

I was under the impression those girls were souly models, not part of some secret webmistress advisary board. Clearly if you are prepared to let thousands, if not millions of men and women look at nude pictures of yourself, "sleazy" web design and seo tactics shouldn't really matter.

Obviously the SG affiliate program has a bunch of dumb models behind the wheel who have absolutely no knowledge of how the interenet works.

Not a good idea signing up to an affiliate program that will put your site+work's fate into the hands of idiot models.

Kevsh 11-12-2005 09:15 PM

Gee, this gives me an idea... they don't want "spammy" links from questionable sites, huh?

I hope the have burstable bandwidth.

Considering all I post is punk / goth girls(mostly), I've only sold 2 memberships in 2 months to their affil program. Fuck them. I think they suck.

I'll keep an eye on www.deviantnation.com and www.godsgirls.com. :)

DWB 11-12-2005 11:03 PM

Can't they all just drink some poison Kool-Aid and go away?

rowan 11-13-2005 12:10 AM

Is their affiliate program called "suicidecash" or similar? Seems an appropriate name.

emthree 11-13-2005 12:30 AM

Exactly why I don't have an affiliate program. There's no way I'm letting gallery builders or webmasters or what-have-you say whatever they want just to sell my memberships. Nuh-uh, no way. I don't want a member who got to my site by clicking a link that said "slap this bitch silly and cum on her face CLICK HERE."

My :2 cents:

Hi Elli :)
I can understand your views, and I was having this discussion with someone else today.
Running an affiliate program always means surrendering some control. Many people do this willingly - the returns that affiliates bring them make it a no-brainer.

Alternatively, if you run your site exactly how you want it, you'll probably have troubles.

This is not to say that you CAN'T have a tight affiliate program - you just need to lay down the rules, and monitor the affiliates (obviously)

Now, I know you know all of this -
But in the case of SuicideGirls

1) They don't know if they want an affiliate program or not, really.
2) They don't want to give up control
3) They don't tell affiliates what they want, or what they expect.

Finally, as you can see above, they have treat their affiliates like dirt behind their backs, nice one.

You know about the internet Elli, you made a measured, intelligent decision - something SG seems incapable of :)

Gotcha. I was missing the part where they don't tell affiliates exactly what the rules are. Without that, nobody's going to be satisfied.

quantum-x 11-13-2005 10:18 AM

final bump for the morning crew.

Manowar 11-13-2005 10:21 AM

They have users who hate capitalism, and owners who want money.

Will never work well

cherrylula 11-13-2005 10:25 AM

their site is mega sleazy, its part of the charm. :1orglaugh

Libertine 11-13-2005 10:26 AM

They may be crazy assholes, but they are right in the way they try to protect the "image" of the site. With a sleazy (= porn) image they would lose most of the girls who now are extremely eager to pose for really low amounts of money, as well as quite a few of their female members. By protecting the illusion, they are protecting their business.

Their affiliate program is, I think, entirely aimed at "art"/goth/alternative/music sites.

I urge anyone who has thought of promoting SG to NOT DO SO\

I started a thread on SG regarding quantum's first SG post.
http://suicidegirls.com/boards/Everything+SG/84827/

well they not only closed the thread I had made, they also closed my paying account I had with SG. oddly enough, last week I had just bought the suicide girls DVD and a shirt , which I am going to gladly charge back.

they're a bunch of goodie goodie dumb cum guzzling power whores.

nofx 11-13-2005 12:29 PM

some interesting information that was emailed to me

I completely agree.

I would liken it to car companies where certain cars are only available in certain colors. Chrystler doesn't offer a puke green version of the 300 because they don't want people to see it on the road and think thats a vehicle they would put out.

SG sounds like their just protecting the image they've created of themselves.

:2 cents:

I appreciate everyone else making sure to mention Blue Blood's SpookyCash on the first page of the last thread about this, but I'm always willing to help webmasters. :)

Hollywood Horwitz 11-18-2005 04:22 PM

I have to say,Amelia and SpookyCash know what time it is in the biz, their at every show, work with their affiliates, smart good peeps.. etc....,try SpookyCash for your goth/indie/punk traffic!! SG sucks!

it goes a little deeper than that. That's the excuse they're giving, which would be fine, if it was stated, or if it was the real reason they were being assholes.

A sale is a sale. You have to expect people to say things about you when you out yourself in the publics eye.

As far as an affiliate program goes, sometimes affiliates do need a talking too, but I'd rather get 50% of something than 100% of nothing.

But I can understand you wanting to control your image and how you will be promoted.

i filmed a suicide girl before she became a suicide girl and when they saw her on my site they freaked on her. We destroyed her too, so those goody lil two shoes must have been appaled.

That pleased me.

The Suicide Girls affiliate program has been around since early summer and and i;'ve recieved numerous checks from them. It boggles my mind that the girls are just finding out about this now.
