How long for domains to drop??

There's a domain I want (for a non-porn site) that supposedly expired on Sept 18th 2001, but it still doesn't show up as available for registration... Any domain experts know how long it might take for this fucker to become available again?

Hmm... I don't think AOL will wanna give that one up quite yet.

I'm not sure why some drop quickly and some drop slowly, but if you really want one you have to just watch it daily...:winkwink:

Yep, that's pretty much what I've been doing... Sucks, though. :(

I think it's about a month after the expiration date but i'm not sure

I believe you can wait anything up to 6 months.

Check on download.com for an auto-domain checker thing, you just enter in the details & it will check that domains availability for you & alert you when its available.

I wish u the best, I hunted taken domains & the owners are given so many warnings u are lucky if they dont re-register it (if its any good :Graucho )

It all depends on the registry and what they feel like doing.

Lately Network Solutions have been the worst offenders and there is really no way of knowing when and what they will drop.

Snapnames.com is a good monitoring service.

One way is if you dont think the owner wants to keep it and you really want it is to get them to register and transfer it to you as they should be able to reregister it even though its expired.

Networksolutions has been holding valuable domains up to 8-12 months, and are under some shit for that now. I read an article on it at some news site, no clue where though...

Cheers

I heard a lot of companies register the really good names themselves instead of putting it back on the market.. and then selling the domain somewhere..

just something that someone on ICQ told me though ;)
