Math Riddle...
Three men are are traveling on business. They stop at a motel for the night and are told it's $30 for the room.
They each pay $10. Later, the manager realizes it was only $25 for the night since it was a week night, not the weekend. He sends a clerk to the room with their $5. The clerk is trying to figure out how to break the $5 evenly between the 3 men. He decides he'll give each man $1 and keep $2 for himself. Now, each man has paid $9 for the room. That's $27. The clerk has the $2 he kept. That's a total of $29. Where did the other $1 go? |
You don't add the $2 the clerk kept to $27 - you add it to $25 which makes $27 and then add $3 which is what the men got back to get $30.

It would be
25 + 1 = 26 26 + 1 = 27 27 + 1 = 28 28 + 2 = 30 |
You guys are no fun :( You're supposed to let the people with half a brain think about it until their eyes bleed...then tell them the answer :winkwink:

Each man ends up having paid ($10 - $1 =) $9, which amounts to (3 * $9 =) $27
$25 of that goes toward the room. $2 (the rest) of that is taken by the clerk. Of the $30 originally given, $25 goes toward the room, $2 is taken by the clerk, and $3 is given to the men. Which amounts to $30. The riddle mixes the two separate calculations together. |
hehe i first heard this one about tenyears ago...

Here's a logical riddle:
A man is sitting on death row, waiting for his execution. The judge, a cruel man with a sadistic sense of humor, who however always keeps his word, walks in one friday night, and says: "Next week, we'll execute you. It will be on monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday or friday. However, you won't know which one it will be... it will be a surprise." The inmate panics and thinks all weekend about the fate awaiting him. Then, he figures out: It is impossible that he will get executed on friday. After all, if he hasn't been executed until friday, he will know it's friday, and it won't be a surprise. But, then it means it is impossible that he will get executed on thursday. After all, he knows he won't get executed on friday, so if he hasn't been executed by thursday, it won't be a surprise if he gets executed on thursday. But, then it means it is impossible that he will get executed on wednesday. After all, he knows he won't get executed on friday or thursday, so if he hasn't been executed by wednesday, it won't be a surprise if he gets executed on wednesday. But, then it means it is impossible that he will get executed on tuesday. After all, he knows he won't get executed on friday or thursday or wednesday, so if he hasn't been executed by tuesday, it won't be a surprise if he gets executed on tuesday. But, then it means it is impossible that he will get executed on monday. After all, he knows he won't get executed on friday or thursday or wednesday or tuesday, so if he hasn't been executed by monday, it won't be a surprise if he gets executed on monday. Having figured this out, the inmate rejoices, realizing that he won't be executed. Much to his surprise, somewhere in the middle of the next week on a gloomy afternoon, he gets lifted out of his bed and is hanged, the look of surprise still on his face. How is this possible? |
