Speaking of HIV, can you believe Magic Johnson is still

going strong after 14 years of living with HIV? I saw him on TV not very long ago, he still looks healthy. I remember watching him as a kid Lakers vs. Celtrics. Magis vs Larry. He was an awesome player and he is still an inspiration. I know he is rich and he can afford the drugs to treat it, but it is still amazing to me how well he has lived with it.

yea its crazy, he probably gets the "cure" for it for paying so much $$$

Brent_Moe 11-09-2005 02:19 AM

If I remembered it right, I've seen him playing on a fund raising game the last three years with former superstars. I was quite surprised coz he still managed to show some of his moves there.

BRISK 11-09-2005 02:39 AM

He must be inspiring to people who have HIV. I wonder if he's the longest living person with HIV?

KCat 11-09-2005 04:15 AM

It's crazy! Must give people a lot of hope.

aico 11-09-2005 04:17 AM

Didn't you know? There's a cure for HIV, it's called $$$

graphical x 11-09-2005 04:17 AM

He is an inspiration to many. I just hope there's a vaccine or an effective treatment soon. HIV can be 'managed' in developed countries, unfortunately, it is in 3rd world countries where treatment is needed the most.

Citizen Cain 11-09-2005 04:20 AM

having tons of $$$ gets you the best medicare in the world.. i'm not surprised...

phonesex 11-09-2005 04:42 AM

Hes also very active in investing back into the community here in Los Angeles.

I believe the average time before HIV turns to AIDS is 15 years, so there is nothing special about him yet.

Everyone thinks his wealth is buying superdrugs that will soon be available to everyone. Fact is, he's knocking on deaths door and will probably be dead within 5 years.

I know someone who got it when he was 23 and is 41 now. He's in pretty bad shape.

Shit, that's some scary shit dude. I've seen pictures of HIV infected people and you'll definitely feel pity for them. Johnson is just lucky he's still doing good as of now.

I know a guy in louisville whos been positive for over 12 years. And hes rich. Coincidence? I dont think so. With the drugs t that are available, it helps ALOT being able to afford them.

DraX 11-09-2005 06:48 AM

good for him

psili 11-09-2005 07:01 AM

Can't you be a carrier of HIV without getting AIDs ?

I mean, aren't they two separate things, though they are tied together in that one can lead to the other?

i have a good friend who tested positive in 1987, and almost surely got it in 1985. he's still fine - no wasting, no fullblown aids, nothing - but he does change his drug cocktails from time to time. and he's not rich at all *shrug*

bjjb 11-09-2005 07:30 AM

Weird thing about the friend of mine who is HIV positive. His wife is also (met in a HIV support group) yet shes been all fucked up for years. The meds give her all kinds of health problems. But last I heard shes still kicking. Meds seem to have no ill effects on Ed tho

Who was speaking of HIV? Was there another thread?

Did you see that the FDA is finally thinking about releasing HIVTests for use by the general public. More folks need to test, but just want to do it privately.

There was an argument against this regarding an individual finding out they were HIV positive while alone and without any counseling; i.e. suicide.

*shrug*

I gave the cluless dipshits the heads up on this a while ago and even dropped the name of the company and stock with exclusive rights to the test

of course they all ganged up and laughed at me

so I no longer will share stock tips here

BTW this was before it hit the news and they were trading under 10 bucks a share

they have already been aproved to begin distro in UK

picking my teeth and enjoying ++++++

Yeah, I saw that. Pretty sorry argument, imo.
That may happen, but I feel that would be better than them infecting anyone else. Sounds harsh, but most people will do what they are going to do, whether or not they have counseling.

To give the power to the people to help them from becoming infected in the first place is a better way. Who knows if people will even use them? With the few people going around and (non)purposely infecting others, these tests could help prevent that(Only if people actually used them of course, like condoms).

Sure people can use condoms, but even they are only 85% effective if used properly.

I think it is important to have all available options. I can personally wait the ten minutes to see if the current play mate is going to kill me slowly or not.

Magic Johnson serves as an inspiration to everyone out there who are struggling with HIV in silence. May he serve as a symbol of strength of spirit

I hope your kidding. You need to go back and read up on HIV. Long story short... He is taking meds that make it virtually untraceable, but that does not mean it's gone.

Definitly not ... I know a girl that has it since she was born ... she's 21 now and doing great

sniperwolf 11-10-2005 08:44 PM

he is an HIV carrier.. and asymptomatic .. not until he has developed AIDS.

Stacey_JoinRightNow 11-10-2005 08:47 PM

HIV is curabale and manageable... I wonder why they have to stay with it...

unless they want to die with it!

Yep, that's fact. One of my best friends has been + for about 12 years and his viral load is virtually non-existent. But he's got it and always will, at least until there's a new therapy that actually eradicates it. I believe it's fact that in developed nations - and elsewhere with aggressive treatment programs - that HIV has become a manageable condition. Just goes to show that the squeaky wheel gets the grease :winkwink: :thumbsup

dynastoned 11-10-2005 09:04 PM

if your that rich hell you can buy all the prototype drugs they haven't been able to release to the average citizen.
