epassporte fees, paying in the shops, 10usd costs on a`40 usd payment?

Okay, so I'm in the USA, using my epassporte card. In certain shops, the price is 21 USD, and I get charged 21USD, looks good. HOWEVER, in other smaller stores, the bill is like 45USD, and epassporte charged me like 65 USD.

Any idea why this is?

That dosnt sound right at all.....

I know that I often dont look when I sign the receipt or enter the pin - maybe the shop is ripping you off?

Was is a restaurant? or any type of place that sells food?

Epassporte adds 20% for a tip until the charge completly clears.

Yeps they are restaurants. Makes sense now...so you mean when it ""completely cleares" the amount will be lower?

I dont think that Epassporte is charging u here... i think the shopkeeper is duping u . Check with the shop, i am sure he gave u a receipt, does it reflect in there. If it does, then you may try contacting epassporte and they might tell you what went wrong here. Personally, its an unusual problem for me coz i have never encountered any problems as such.... :)

Yes epassporte adds 20% incase you decide to add a tip to the bill..When the restaurant first runs your card its an authorization and only for the bill amount then if you add a tip the restaurant doesnt re run your card to make the final charge for a few days. When they run your card to make it final it will be corrected on your epassporte account.

I use my epassporte for food all the time even if you eat at a place like mcdonalds where you would never tip, epassporte adds 20% untill the restaurant makes the final charge a few days later.

Makes completely sense now. It's 20% exactly

Original Currency Amount in USD
$54.98 USD - $65.98

They could use a different name tho for that table...

The 20% is a safety net for epassporte incase your account doesnt have enough funds to cover a tip. So epassporte adds the 20% in when the restaurant makes the first authorization.

Same with gas they makes a $50 authorization, but nowadays $50 isnt enough some of my bills are $65+ and my epassporte still shows $50 for a few days until it really clears.
