Krispy Kreme doughnuts

Are they worth a 4 hour drive?

I've never had one and they don't sell them where I live. My friends are driving to NYC tomorrow and the main reason is to buy dozens of these doughnuts.

Are they worth the trip?

421Fill 03-16-2002 06:59 PM

rotflmao ....... uhhh..... no. They are good and all, but they are the most basic donuts in the world. They remind me of cartoon donuts, you know the epitome of.

No sweat, I and some buddies would sometimes do "pilgrimages" to the closest In & Out burger in Northern California when I was going to college--Pleasanton. A nice hour ride via BART from Berkeley. It was well worth it.

Platinum Dave 03-16-2002 07:21 PM

They are much better then any other donut I have ever eatten.

4 Hours drive to get them....

I'd make the trip once, buy a few dozen thats for sure.

They melt in your mouth... mmmmmmm

UnseenWorld 03-16-2002 07:26 PM

Krispy Kreme donuts are an invention of SATAN!!!

ADIDAS 03-16-2002 07:28 PM

I have one 2 miles from my house! I stoped eating donuts from anywhere else! But only get em HOT! Dont buy em cold! You'll regret it!!!

Worht the trip IF you are going for other reasons!

BrettJ 03-16-2002 07:36 PM

krispy kreme are good. I'd say they are worth a 1 and a half hour drive. but watch out...if you make the trip once... you'll make a habit of it.

I have one 20 minutes from me - and make a 2am run once a month.

still have yet to make the 14 hour drive to In & Out. (I think they are okay, but wouldn't make that trip just for the burger).

I routinely go 90 minutes for italian subs, at Meconis in Olympia WA

VeNoM 03-16-2002 07:37 PM

I have one in walking distance now, they fuken kickass :thumbsup

Agreed:Graucho

They are some serious munchies... I eat way to many since my local Giant Grocery store started carrying them a few months ago. The Vanilla Cream filled are killer, but be prepared for a sugar rush on the drive back.....Guaranteed this will be a munch for you to put in the record book.

Almost forgot, I suggest an Icy cold Gallon of milk to go with the donuts:winkwink:

KC 03-16-2002 07:50 PM

Clay,

I think they've got too much sugar in them... I have one 10 minutes away and it makes me sick to even drive by it.

I'd suggest speding the 8 hours (round trip) doing something more worth while, like staring at a blank wall.

Uncle Vinny 03-16-2002 09:17 PM

I had 4 or 5 tonight already...worth every second of my twenty minute drive.:thumbsup

^R3K^ 03-16-2002 09:35 PM

I was talking to my wife about it this morning; our closest one is 2 hours away.

After seeing this I'm definitely driving up there tomorrow and after I tell my family and friends I'm going I will probably end up buying 15 dozen. :Graucho

Sly_RJ 03-16-2002 09:57 PM

You guys are absolutely nuts. I have one at my school. And In and Out is only a couple blocks from school.

GotGauge 03-16-2002 10:13 PM

Very good,
But like KC said 99% sugar!

If you go, make sure you get there when they open and get them HOT off the Line... Not worth it if you don't..

Rictor 03-16-2002 10:28 PM

They aren't that good. And if they're the ones they pack up and send to gas stations, then they are really bad. Like all donuts, the best ones are the ones that are right out of the oven. I used to go to a place in my hometown...Dan's Donuts, that we affectionately called "Dirty Dan's," and I would go there around 2 am when I knew the first batch of donuts was just getting done. Those were the best donut I've ever had. I would drive out of my way for them....but Krispy Kreme is just a chain. Dunkin Donuts is better if you're into chains.

Jackmeoff 03-16-2002 10:34 PM

Hell no they aren't worth 8 hour r/t drive!!!

JakeR 03-16-2002 10:43 PM

krispy kreme's are great and theres one only a couple minutes away from here :D, every friday we have them drop off a couple boxes at the office. I wouldn't drive 4 hours for a donut though, maybe you could ask them to overnight a couple boxes to you, probably cost as much as you'd spend on gas driving there.

Jamdin 03-16-2002 10:45 PM

I had one a last year, I really don't see what the big deal is about them.

bhutocracy 03-16-2002 10:52 PM

isn't there an unspoken rule that any food starting with a "k" instead of a "c" should be avoided at all costs? :)

kmanrox 03-16-2002 10:58 PM

id suggest a myoplex shake in lieue of krispy Kreme

but they are the best damned donuts known to man

That is NOT sugar. It is crack. Why do you think they have so much repeat business.

No no no. That's all wrong!

It is a comedic rule that words with a 'k' in them are funny.

theWatsonian 03-17-2002 01:30 AM

Oh, and we got a krispy kreme 9 miles from our house and I never had one before in my life until my wife brought some home. Fresh, hot, sweet.... I nearly embarrassed myself. :winkwink:

i'd be fucked because in a month i would be too fat to walk or fit into my car haha. but i wouldn't drive 8 hours round trip for some doughnuts.

4Pics 03-17-2002 03:01 AM

make the drive, they are well worth it.

fuct 03-17-2002 03:04 AM

shit i go on the turnpike to get to that shit

Wiredoctor 03-17-2002 09:53 AM

Well??? Is the road trip over??...whats the verdict on the donuts??:)

Jakke PNG 03-17-2002 10:01 AM

These threads make me sad.
cuz I don't have a fucking clue of what your talking about.
It's the same with some other munchies stuff you talk about, the only us-based munchies company here is the allmighty McD...surprisingly.

Just thought you ought to know.

Jakke PNG 03-17-2002 10:02 AM

...maybe I should make a 12 hour flight to US then to get some?

ldinternet 03-17-2002 10:05 AM

i bought some "fresh" chocolate donuts from the mall on friday night and when we got home they were stale.

motherfuckers!

Gemini 03-17-2002 10:11 AM

Fresh glazed??! MMmmmmmmmmmmm :thumbsup :thumbsup

Krogers here carries them but you have to be fast. They sell more than 500 boxes in an hour usually. (according to the deli manager) I believe it since we have seen the truck run the racks of them in and they are history quick. We have been trying to catch a box for 2 weeks now with no luck.

If they dry out? Damp paper towel over one in bowl for 20-30 secs on low and voila. Fresh again!

That works great on pizza too. My old man has taught me some cooking stuff finally. lmfao

Jakke PNG 03-17-2002 10:14 AM

Goddamn you!
Now I feel like having a donut/cake whatever sweet with my evening coffee.. and I don't have a car atm, and there's nothing near that I could buy anything fresh.
Shit.
I ain't baking!

greentea 03-17-2002 10:38 AM

Dunkin Donuts

Only place around here and there STALE!

Wizzo 03-17-2002 10:47 AM

Since I own a little stock in them, I would say Hell Yes! but in reality no doughnut is worth 4 hours in a car.:winkwink:

I just woke up <insert bed-head icon here> and decided not to go. If the doughnut were filled with crack, then I'd go. They'll bring me back a dozen and I'll stick em in the oven...good enough for me :)

really cheap tho, I guess theyre like $2 for a dozen.

theWatsonian 03-17-2002 11:06 AM

You either love KK or you hate them - there seems to be no inbetween.

TGF, they are expanding their operations so you should be able to buy them in a decade or so. If you got the bucks you can always have some shipped same-day to you. :) "Chopper me in a dozen glazed and a dozen of them Twinkie-cream filled ones..."

Dunkin Donuts, Wenchel's and Yum Yum Donuts dropped the ball when it comes to quality and service. That is the real reason Krispy Kreme is doing well.

FiReC 03-17-2002 11:50 AM

hell yea they are worth it...but make sure you get the fresh baked glazed......in and out is the shit....and del taco beats the shit outta T.B.

echo465 03-17-2002 12:19 PM

Don't pre-judge them if they're not fresh off the line. They lose their Krispy-Kreme magic once they've cooled down.

And that's the truth!

Hahaha, never had one have you?

I remember years ago (now I feel old since alot of you probably weren't even out of diapers) when the only one around was about an hour from my house -- every time we went anywhere in that vicinity we stocked up on them coming and going.

I try to avoid them like the plague now, since they are nothing but sugar (or maybe it is crack lol), but they are sooooo good. Puts Dunkin, etc to shame.

I think they started in Virginia. For some reason I thought you were in Canada

shann 03-17-2002 05:13 PM

4 hour drive for a doughnut? get this....

I'm in Toronto, and i have heard there is a Krispy Kreme like half hour from here, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I'm on a plane coming back from maybe Miami or Vegas a few months ago, this guy has like 8 dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts as his carry on.... each dozen in a box. His BIG plan, to sell them for $50 a dozen! LOL

So maybe if you can offload them at $50 a dozen (mind you, I'm sure he meant $50 CAD not USD) then 4 hour drive, do it! lol

Not a chance ;)

Actually I'm in Arizona now, but from N. Carolina, we had them in Charlotte at least twenty years ago, that I can remember, maybe even longer.

zubr 03-17-2002 06:32 PM

Are you a cop? hehe.... get outta here, we got no donuts 4 u :BangBang:
