HDV Thread.

Does anyone have numbers as to how many people are actually opting for HDV? How many people have machines capable of handling it? I notice that HD Porn-esq keywords are not highly searched at this point.

-------

If I shoot in HDV mode, are there any options that can be used to take that footage and convert it to SDV? The reason I ask is simple, if you shoot in HDV, it would be nice to have two links (an option) for those that do not want the larger size or still do not have a computers capable of handling the files.

I have shot in HDV and converted it before, but the results were hideous. The video looked terrible.

---------

If you are going to shoot for someone that is less interested in the Internet, and more interested in taking the file in DVD format, is there a benefit to shooting in HDV? If they have a progressive scan DVD player, will that garner a better feed overall?

-------

Anyone have any lighting solution recommendations for low light? Is there a manual adjustment I can make with the actual camera? I use the JVC version of HD Cams and it has a manual setting on it.

hey cory,

as you might have noticed we shoot with the Sony HDR FX1E. We were more or less forced by one customer cause he wanted to be the first one on the german market to have HD stuff on his site.

in general we now shoot everything in HDV but set the cam to DV when capturing. the result still looks excellent cause the Sony cam itself makes very good pics. plus we have the HDV stuff when needed in the future.

And with the lighting we can't complain - we use 3 1000W lights with filter for daylight. but the Sony still makes quite good pics even with low natural lighting. maybe there are better cams - but still the Sony is way better than everything we had before...

The Sony is by far the best.

You confused me a bit on the DV and HDV? Aren't they separate modes? Don't I essentially have to choose one or the other?

And Thanks!

i record actually in HDV mode, but i can switch the firewire output to convert the HDV MPEG2 on the tape in AVI DV compressed when capturing. that's what we do mostly, cause the DV material is for web use absolutely sufficient.
