Hey guys i got a pc but it has no floppy disk... i only have cd rom drives.. im trying to partition my hdisk... is there anyway to do this without using windows xp,2000 cds?

yes, burn a boot disk to a CD, or use a Linux distribution that runs live off a CD-ROM, then reboot your computer hit F8 or F10 or F12 depending on your system and boot from the CD drive.

Lol I've done this myself just two weeks ago on the PC I built ;) I prefer SLAX, but there are several other distros such as Knoppix STD and others.. Do a Google search for Linux Live Distributions

if you are installing a windows OS on the system then you should use FDISK from any win OS

take the windows CD rom place it into the drive and boot the pc

as soon as the pc begins to boot start pressing and releasing F8 key

select command prompt boot option

at the prompt type fdisk

then make your desired choices and you are ready to go

please note he requested to do this in DOS

linux dosent support DOS

I don't care if you CCNA or MCSE or Perl guru!

He said he does not want to use the "windows" disc .... yes he specifically said 2000 or XP but it would warrant a reasonable man to believe that he does not have any sort of OS disc at his disposal.

Although your description would work ...Just not in this instance!

he needs a software similar to partition magic :2 cents:

Heh -- partition magic.

Last time I used partition magic... it was more like partition NIGHTMARE. Cost me a week reseting my laptop after I had to use my recovery disks.
