Verizon Broadband Wireless Rocks ! S. Fla Webmasters Read..
Due to hurricane Wilma we were fucked herer in South Florida . All uor lines were down . No Cable modems or Even Dial up cause bellsouth is still down after 2 weeks . They gave me dates of december before we would be back up . Which would put anyone out of business. Well Verizon has wireless cards for your laptop that give you broadband speeds of 1-2 megs that dial in to their towrs . And for my Desktop PC I bought one of their Pocket PC's that doubles as a modem as well on my PC with speeds up to 500k . The onlyu other option was getting a satellite installed with a 1 meg pipe on it for 600 bucks plus 90 bucks a month . This was 150$ for the wireless card and 200 for the phone + 90 bucks a month for both services ...
FUCKING ROCKS! Try it great for WI FI on any laptop and a excellent back up for when your DSl goes out ... |
I hope this helps my stock
|
Oh also getting upload of 100k on Phone and 250 on Wi FI card ... and they also have a huge coverage map..

Im on it now on my PC and its smoking compared to nothing ! The laptop card is much faster though ..and If it works everywhere its wel worth it for all webmasters. They also stated that their towers never went out as sprints and T mobiles did during Wilma so I felt more comfertable getting their instead of SPrints new WI fi Service... |
|
This had better increase the value of my stock
|
I asked about hooking up pc's to Verizon's broadband and they said they only had cards for laptops. Can you explain a bit more how are you running the PDA as a modem for your desktop??
|
Just get a PCMCIA to PCI converter. I have the Verizon card also and simply plug it into the back of my desktop and use it just like I would on my laptop.
I bought the PCMCIA to PCI converter off eBay for like $15.00. All you need is an empty PCI slot inside your computer. Speeds are around 750 kbps on laptop or desktop. Good luck. |

I HAVE LINKS TO ALL THE DRIVERS AND IT TOOK ME ABOUTN 1/2 HOUR TO FIGURE IT OUT BUT IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM . IM GETTING BETWEEN 300-500K WITH 100K UPLOAD SPEEDS. Wmodem Instructions Here are the instructions that sdppc posted on pdaphonehome.com and slightly modified by me. Note that you do NOT need to do the "download steps" because the files up above are the download files you need. Download EVDO drivers for laptop and dialer from Club I mate site. I figured that I would put all the files and instructions in one place to use the xv6600 as a usb modem for your laptop. I have achieved close to 500k with this. The steps to take Download the files Download the attached wmodem.zip and unpack wmodem.exe to your Pocketpc. Download the attached dialer/driver and unpack and install on your pc Download the attached DisconnectActiveSync and put it on your pc How to use On your laptop run DisconnectActiveSync On the PPC turn off "Vision"(sprint) or "Express Network"(Verizon) by holding the end button down until it disconnects. If this puts your phone in flight mode, take it back out of flight mode, but don't let it reconnect to the data network. Start wmodem on phone. Make sure to pick USB on popup in wmodem and hit start button. Plug phone into laptop via usb When new hardware wizard starts, point to drivers attached below which should be on your laptop. Start dialer. User is [email protected] password is vzw Dial #777 NOTE: After using this method, you won't be able to USB activesync without re-enabling it. On the pocket PC go to start menu-->programs-->activesync, select the options tab... then click the options button... then check the checkbox and select "USB" from the dropdown. |

All I did was buy the PCMCIA to PCI converter and plug the card in the back of my pc and fire up the Verizon software and connect. I use this as a backup for when my cable goes down. It's just like having a PCMCIA port on my desktop. :thumbsup |
I also want to add that After getting hammered by hurricane wilma here in Hollywoodd , FLA I have no faith in Bellsouth or Cable modems any more . IT has taken them over 2 weeks so far to do anything . If it wasnt for direct tv I would be stuck without out internet or television . The power company was on it but for communications , to have a land line down for 2 weeks is just un heard of ..Doesnt everyone agree ? All the due dates for Cable modems and Dsl are Dec . 8th ..

I bought something like this:

I got mine today. It really is great.

Being offline for 2 weeks and having to go to an packed Kinkos or Starbucks because no one has access and updating porn sites was no fun and next to impossible ..without getting hasseled ... I just wondered what happened to the data lines here to be out for so long . |

I'm assuming the cellular internet works much like text messages because even when the cell coverage was minimal to nill you could send text messages. I could care less about phone service but I do need net access. A generator to charge laptop batteries and cellular internet access would be fine. Nice to see you went that route and it is working for you. You should also petition your state govt and federal govt to force FPL to burry their lines. If they did you would rarely lose power but they view it as "too expensive" to do. If they had done it when people wanted them to in the beginning this would not be an issue now but they prefer to line their pockets first. Cable and telephone lines should also be burried instead of telephone poles. Aside from the practicality of burrying the lines I think it would have a vast aesthetic appeal too. |

The next biggest obstacle is being able to dig up every property owner's lawn without a huge legal hassle which would inevitably ensue. |
