Almost crashed my motorcycle today...rant!

First off, let me say I am very inexperienced with motorcycles. I've raced 4 wheelers for years, but I've only been on 2 wheels for about a month. Anyway, I'm rounding this corner going about 50mph, and I see this old dude in a side street looking dead at me. I mean, he's staring right at me and decides to pull out. No fucking way I'm going to stop in time, so I cut to my left to go around, and the fucker keeps going across both lanes and fucking stops. Just stops, blocking both lanes, instead of maybe trying to get the fuck out of my way. With a big ass island to my left, the only way through is behind the guy, so I cut back to my right, but there's no time or distance to make the transition. So now I'm standing on the bike, it's aiming about 45 degrees off the direction I'm actually heading, I'm leaning, and both tires are locked and squeeling as I slide a good 20-30 feet. Numbnuts ahead finally decides to straighten up and start moving again, so I managed to straighten up out of the slide and keep going without touching the ground. I catch up to the geezer and give him a "what the fuck" look, and he returns with an apathetic "what? what's going on?" expression. Grrr. People just can't fucking drive! Or pay attention! I mean, what the fuck was he thinking?!? Anyway, I let it rest there...I guess no harm, no foul, but damn if people like that aren't going to kill someone some day. The whole way through the slide, I'm thinking, "time to bail, time to bail, get ready to roll...", but surprised myself that I was able to pull out of it without further incident. Damn. I do love an adrenaline rush.

i gotta commend you on not losing your cool... i have bad road rage when people almost get me injured..

you have no idea how many times people have tried turning into my land while driving on the highway.. its like they don't even shoulder check before they start switching lanes.. have had a couple close calls where they've almost ran me off the road also..

they should make it harder to get your license, and also make people above 60 have to retake their test

bringer 11-06-2005 06:19 PM

you should of followed him home. he'd of gotten the message

WarChild 11-06-2005 06:20 PM

Ride a motorcycle like you're invisible. Assumme nobody can see you, ever, and will act like you're not there. Had a few close calls myself.

I just really didn't know what else I could do. I could have yelled and pulled him out of his car, but for what? To punish him for being stupid? It's not like he meant to do it. Besides, he was a old guy, and I still was brought up to show respect to elders. lol.

I do agree that licensing should be much more strict. "Driving isn't a right; it's a priveledge." I believe that was the old quote, but you'd think the government is required to give anyone and everyone a license.

When I bought this motorcycle, I hadn't even ridden one before, and yet the DMV upgraded my licence by asking a few stupid questions that a 5th grader could have answered. They never even made the attempt to find out if I actually knew how to ride it! I didn't want to be one of the guys I'm bitching about, so I went out for several nights in a row and set up slaloms in an empty parking lot and practiced to proficiency before hitting the major roads.

People in/around Vancouver cannot drive. I've driven through the United States, and no one there speeds. They may change lanes alot, but they never speed, and I've never seen any close calls while driving there. BC on the other hand, jesus christ, people switch lanes without signaling or shoulder checking, they drive down the middle of the road on two lane streets, they speed and don't pay attention, and instead of slowing when they see the yellow, they speed up. I almost got tboned a few months back because someone decided to speed up when they saw the light turn red. Two days ago, a guy in a rustang was driving along in front of me about four car lengths, and some SUV next to him just decides to change lanes. The guy in the stang came within inches of being driven into the median :1orglaugh

Anyway, people in Canada can't drive. And when people who can't drive are speeding and trying to sing along to their favourite alanis morsette CD, that's a recipe for disaster.

CherryLipsRosa 11-07-2005 11:24 AM

My worst side comes out when i drive , i just hate stupid drivers!

bash the fucks windshield in with your helmet, pull him out of it, bash him with helmet. keep him from killing anyone else... kill him first!

beemk 11-07-2005 11:30 AM

uhhh, you've only been riding for a month and you're taking corners at 50mph? i think thats you're first problem, unless im reading that wrong.

No, that was badly put. It wasn't technically a corner, but a relatively mild curve in the road.

I have never seen anyone not get a license in my life - they might fail once or twice but it seems its taken for granted. Problem is, there are a lot of high-speeders who pay attention, and a lot of slow-rollers who do not seem to be focusing on the situation. When the two meets, thats what happensé

It may have something to do with decriminalized pot.

Lawyers make too much from traffic accidents to push or encourage laws that would actually keep people safe.

I've had some close calls thanks to careless drivers too. They should lose their license for endangering your life. Even though the accident didn't happen they need to be held accountable.

Had a close call about 4 years ago before i sold the bike, people in cars are idiots when it comes to motorcycle riders

Babagirls 11-07-2005 12:20 PM

I swear it's almost like they have the mentality (similar to truckers) that goes, "oh well, he's little...if I misjudge this, at least I'M not going to get hurt."

Yup. As I mentioned before, I've been on a 4 wheeler since I was a kid and did all kinds of crazy stuff, but I feel 100% confident, because I'm 100% in control out in the woods with no one else around. But even if I was just as proficient with a motorcycle, it's dumbasses like this you just can't control.

Jay 11-07-2005 12:32 PM

You have to watch for idiots making left hand turns.... :2 cents:

1)The driver making the left hand turn from on coming traffic...
2)The driver making the left hand turn that has to pull across
your lane of traffic to turn into the other lane of traffic...

tristan_D 11-08-2005 03:01 AM

man just be thankful that nothing more worse happened. be careful next time
