20k used golfballs in fair condition... what to do with them?

All of them are in fair condition, all good name brands, many Pro V...
I have been researching all afternoon and found a few places that buy and sell. I called and left contact info with it being sunday and all.

no slices
some ink
some cart burn
all good balls

Wondering if anyone here would know where I could unload them or if you folks have any leads. They are well worth 17 cents a piece, I can't go any lower than a dime per ball in bulk.

Any ideas? Please help.

I would think places that have a driving range or miniature golf would be interested. Or maybe a school district with high schools that have golf teams or classes, my school had both.

tons of used golf balls for sale on eBay.

Try a local golf course. they are always looking for them for the range.

Other than that start playing, and try to loose them ,

Well the "like new" balls we get are sold to the local pro shops and individual customers we get over the years. The good pro V sell for $1 each, and most other brands we sell for $6 a dozen. The ones we sell to pro shops are in great shape and we usually sell 800 balls for $200 every month or at this time of year every other month.

The pro shops are not interested in the marked up balls. Driving ranges will. In fact we sell the driving range balls for 10 cents each and they allow us to collect them right from the outside boundaries of their range. I went out there one day and got 400 in just 2 hours, $20 an hour is pretty good for picking up balls hehe. I was bookin'.

But 20k is a lot of fuckin' balls.

One niche comes to mind..."Unusual Objects" haha

Sly 11-06-2005 03:07 PM

Is that how you get all of the balls? By collecting them outside of range limits?

ebay
i used to buy used balls as well
perfect when youre starting
buying new balls when you start is idiotic
regardless of how much money you got

mikeet 11-06-2005 03:13 PM

Shit, you could start your own driving range or miniature golf course with that many balls.

From what I recall most places.
Clean and sort all of the balls.
Near perfect ones are grouped together by maker.
Sort of messed up ones then get the "ye old red stripe around them".

Both have seperate buyer markets. Red stripe goes to driving ranges, near perfect goes to resell.

No, only range balls get collected from the range... a few regular balls, but not many.

My friends dad collects balls from all sorts of golf courses, it is a common practice. He has had very very bad back surgery and can barely move, so he must walk daily to keep from stiffening up. So he walks arount the outside boundaries of many courses and collects balls, to him it is a hobby but there just so happens to be a BIG market for used balls. He actually makes a pretty good living from this and it keeps him healthy at the same time.

He has asked me to do some research and look for anyone interested in buying. He knows nothing about computers or internet at all. I have compared prices on eBay, and contacted many sites that deal in used balls. The eBay prices are competitive but I am sure I can get what I ask. But 20k is a lot of balls.

And yes I get a commision on the sales.

I suggested this to him, but he is nearly dead and doesn't want to be tied down by opening a business like this, he has plenty of money and wants to travel. I told him to open one anyway and hire people to run it, but he is not interested.

We are fully aware of how the business works. All the good balls are cleaned and seperated and put in ziplock bags then sold out of the back of the stereo shop. The 20k I am talking about are cleaned as well and put in boxes in bulk, they have built up over the years and we need the space.

Sadly the ranges in our area are not interested in these balls as they have special balls they like to use for driving. Every ball has a different softness and hardness etc. Some ranges just do not want regular balls, I am not sure why.

And yes, I watched the special on the discovery channel where they were cleaning balls and painting stripes on them.

ALSO! NONE of these balls are retrieved from water.

Buy my domain http://www.golfpost.com for an insane price, make a message board on the domain, then make a post to sell the balls :)

Thanks but no thanks.

I have researched a few message boards, but figuring out a way to post without it being too spammy hehe. Since I will be a new registered user and all.

Heh, wow... I could think of a TON of things to do with them that would be fun.

One night we got drunk and was hitting them off the loading dock at the stereo shop. That was pretty fun.
