Begging threads, donating threads etc. Who did it first on GFY?

Been reading this board since day 1. And I have seen lots of begging and donating threads over the years. Anyone with info on who did it first? Im not talking about donating for GFY 1 million post etc, more private begging and donation threads.

Anyone remember?

Oh and don't read this post wrong... (I know some people might link this thread to another thread, and that is NOT the purpose! So please don't do it). There's hundreds of begging threads during the years, and Im not posting this thread because of any particular of them.

All I can say about donations is -- create good karma every day. You never know when it's your turn to be inflicted with bad luck.

A year ago ( it will be a year on Thanksgiving day) my husband died on a sudden heart attack. Other people took up a collection to help me with the funeral and getting family members here from around the world. I knew nothing about the collection, certainly didn't ask for it but was termendously touched.

So...I did not beg for anything.

It's bad enough they beg
It's even worse when people donate to these useless fucks

Hopefully you wouldn't find yourself in a bad spot and needing help.

True. Neither did I. GFY does have its moments of kind heartedness, and it's something for which I am eternally grateful.

Whoops, clicked on most in this thread but I must have missed that one. It's worth a second look/laugh anyway. :thumbsup

You know, if you're a part of this online community of adult webmasters, I see no reason why if you're truly in need and have had a horrible tragedy befall you that you can't ask for some help from the rest of us here. It does however become a bit much when someone who has never posted here or on any of the other webmaster boards, has never taken part nor interacted with any of us, never deemed it worth their while to do so, asks for money or has someone else asking for donations from us. I didn't make it that way, it just is, and reading many of the posts on certain threads confirms this.

I am more inclined to donate cash to such a personal cause when it's "one of our own", someone known right here in the community, on the board or boards. Sorry to say it but it seems like it is less of a chance that the donation thread is a scam if you at least know the person from here or have had some direct business dealings with that person.... depending on the person of course. If you've been a total snotnosed asshole on the board for years and then you come on here begging for money you won't get a dime from me. Karma=bitch.

It's hard to know who is on the level and who is legit when these "help" threads hit the board, so basically each of us has to pick and choose accordingly as to whom we donate funds to. I've had no qualms about coughing up some bucks for several people here who obviously really needed help, and will likely do so in future should anything awful happen.... and awful things WILL happen, sad fact that it is. But I tend to hold off or hold back on sending funds when I am unsure as to the legitimacy of the effort, or if it's someone I just don't know.... and reall, one could do a "donation of the week" adding up to thousands of dollars per year if they wanted to. I can't see myself doing that.

And lastly, I hate to say this but I will anyway.... since so many Americans have argued with me and criticized the Canadian health care system in the past, actually told me that because we pay a few bucks extra in taxes that it's not as good etc..... then you see dozens (yes DOZENS) of americans coming on the boards over the past several years asking for help with their medical bills, well, I'm a little turned off on this kind of donation help. Sorry, but you rarely if ever see a Canadian go online asking for money for medical bills (special and very specific cases not included). These past few days I find myself once again very thankful that I live in a country where, if I were to have any serious injury or illness and needed a long hospital stay, that upon my release to go home I would be given NO BILL, only a well-wish for my continued health.

Americans.... get health insurance if you don't already have it. Don't wait until the crisis hits and you have to come to the adult community for help because it's pretty obvious that much of this community is tired of forking out $50 here, $100 there, for everyone who comes along with hat in hand.

She started this thread after there had been some donation requests by people with critical issues.

I agree we pay about 50% tax and there is a sales tax of 25% on everything and extra taxes on luxery items like cars (180%+25% sales tax) but the security it gives is worth every penny.

I went to Atlanta 2 weeks ago and I never thought about not paying $100 for travel insurence for the 6 days. I can't imagine not having insurence cause bad things happen even to good people.

To my experience (being a Canadian for 42 years and all), I pay at most 14% in sales tax (PST 7% + GST 7%), so I'm not sure where you get this 25% thing.

And I don't pay 50% for income tax either. You have to be making a lot more money than I am to have to pay that much tax. During my hospital years working as a health care worker they were deducting around 22-24% for income tax off my cheques, which from what I understand is actually quite similar to the US. The most I've ever deducted off of any income of mine for income tax is about 35%, and that was a few months were my total income for the month hit fairly high (for me anyway), in the 8-10k range.

I still don't know where some of you get where we pay "so much more in taxes" up here. If it's more it's not really all that much more, at least not for the average Canuck. But the health care benefits are more than worth it, as we've seen lately in some of the threads where people have openly posted examples of their horrendous health care costs in the USA.
