Domain selling, does current registrar matter to buyers?
I have a domain that I picked up a month ago, and I'd like to sell right now.
Could the fact that it can't be transfered out of the current registrar for another two months effect the sale price? I would think not, but I've never sold one this soon. |
I bet you're talking about GoDaddy's 60-day no transfer out policy, right?
Yeah, it does usually suck -- if the domain is good enough, it shouldn't matter. Perhaps you can transfer between accounts? I think you can do that before 60 days. -Merlin |
If the domain's selling for over $500, no it doesn't usually matter.
If it's a $20 sale, many wouldn't want to waste their time. |
ICANN rules prevent transfer within 60 days of initial registration, and I think within 30 days of a prior inter-registrar transfer. It's not just GoDaddy's policy. Lack of immediate inter-registrar transfer should not impact sales price, as long as it's at a reputable registrar, and you can transfer the domain to another account at that same registrar. There are a few registrars that are so bad they could theoretically diminish the price or delay the closing date, and if it were really obscure that might raise eyebrows on a large purchase too, but normally it shouldn't matter.
