IN EVERY state in the US, A police officer is authorized to use deadly force to protect himself. the instant that the man pick up a firearm, and the officer knew, ( Which he did, by yelling multiple time to put the gun down, ) He should have fired on the the subject.

Other than a bullet, I think he was worried about the camera running. A lot of cops have been hurt, because they are afraid the camera might be used against them.

The guy was probably better armed than he was, so trying not to start a shootout probably didn't seem like a bad idea at the moment.

The cop probably had a standard issue handgun. Would you attack someone with combat experience holding a semi-automatic assault rifle while you only had a handgun?

The cop likely felt bad for the vet and didnt want to kill him , prob hoping he could talk him out of it..

if he wasn't able or willing to confront the man and make him submit , he should have puled his cruiser back , and waited for backup.

From the looks of the are around the cars the back up was most likey 20 min + away. Even at 100 mph. Troopers in most states face that.

When the guy started for the truck, he should have reholstered, and grabbed the guy. A fight without a firearm would have been the best. When the guy go the gun from inside the truck, he should have shot him. Even if it meant shooting him in the back. That guy went for a gun for one reason.

In Los Angeles, cops would not have hesitated 1 second to shoot that guy as soon as they saw him get his gun. You can tell that happened somewhere in the red states.

Why didn't the cop annihilate that guy as soon as he came out of the truck? I would have pummeled that guy with 6 rounds as soon as i saw him reaching for his gun in the truck. It looked pretty clear in that video that he wanted to die via cop. I would have granted him his wish.

Sad, the guy was young and he obviously was nervous about firing at him early, and when he did start shooting even though he hit him once he seemed to miss alot of times. But I can agree with everyone here and say that I think he should of shot the guy in the back as he was reaching for his gun. But I won't pass judgement on this guy, he was obviously trying to do his best in the situation as a young officer by himself.
