I have my ceremony today.
Going to be weird but I am looking forward to it. Around about 2pm my time I am being sworn in as being British.
I am sure it will rain so I get the traditional welcoming from the British gods. |
cool, do you get to say something as well or just stand there?
|
I have to affirm an oath...I had to decided if I wanted to swear it or affirm it. The people that swear have to do it on a bible..so I went for affirm.
|
Happy Bar Mitzvah!!!

If you really want to impress... you should bust into the room (don't bother to knock, just go in shouting and swearing) after a night of binge drinking, with a copy of The Sun rolled up under your arm, a counterfeit burberry cap, and your adidas pants tucked into your socks.
You'll blow them away. :) |
Well, the deed is done. In true British style it pissed it down and we were handed a cup of tea as we left the ceremony.
|
Are you from the states?
|
Yup...I have dual citizenship now
|
Hey - I said congrats in the other thread - but its worth repeating - welcome to the club! :)
Were there many at the ceremony? |
There were about 20 people sworn in and then about 25 guests (we were allowed two each). I was sworn in by the deputy mayor of Bexley ..lol The framed picture of the Queen on the desk was comedy.

Be honest, have you tried speaking with a British accent with strangers you meet on the street in order to see if you can "pass" ? LOL
|
Congrats and good luck!

More feeling a sense of completion and of independence. I no longer need to be attached to someone when I come through imigration at the airport or something. Whenever I came back into the UK before I had to explain being married to a British citizen, etc. Now, I am just me. |
Congrats hun! That's exciting.

Yup...my parents were blessed with a dental plan. |
why do they have to do it on a bible if they swear?
|
in the end it wasn't a bible but the swearing in was 'swearing to god'..I affirmed which meant I didn't have to mention god.
|
Congratulations! Let's hope you've brought some of the nice weather with you. :)
