Sony is up to some shady shit
http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/200...al-rights.html
The guys at Sysinternals, makers of great free security and diagnostic software, have discovered something unsettling with their new RootkitRevealer program: Those assholes at Sony have incorporated blackhat hacking techniques into their Digital Rights Management software, putting a rootkit onto the computer of anyone who plays music CD from Sony on their computer. |
'Shady' ???

they jus found this out now? lolllllll

Sony, like Apple tried to corner markets with proprietary technology. When are manufacturers going to learn that longevity, customer enthusiasm and overall likability comes from choice and options available to them.
If Sony invented the Compact Disc and kept a stronghold on the technology, we may still be using Casette Tapes. Because all manufacturers could easily adopt the technology it became a nearly universal platform that has been around for 20+ years. |
Congress needs to get the ball rolling on laws against modifying peoples computers without their consent. But that won't happen until our computer illiterate lawmakers retire.

What a bunch of crap. If anyone reads the whole article...
First, it's not a rootkit. It's cloaked processes in windows. Many MANY programs do this. You probably have no clue how many hidden processes, directories, and files are sitting on your computer right now that you have no clue about. Second, scroll down and look through the pictures. The guy bought a CD that's clearly marked as copy protected, and can only be played back on a computer using a media player that comes on the CD. If you buy something like this and don't expect some sort of strange software install, you're just a moron. Why would you opt for a CD that's got extra crap on it just so you have to jump through hoops to play it on your computer? |
