A fellow webmaster joined my site, then charged back. What to do?

A little advice from the legal/moral/family/medical advice board at GFY is appreciated. :)

Alysha and I chatted with a fellow webmaster and his wife on a swinger's website a few months ago. We talked about doing a shoot together, and/or meeting them for dinner, etc. since we're only about 45 minutes away.

Well, the next day they joined our site. I immediately refunded their card and kept their access going to the site. I emailed them to let them know this. I did, however, forget to turn off the recurring billing, so his card rebilled 30 days later. I am the first to admit my fault there.

Needless to say, he charged back the rebill shortly afterwards. When I received the chargeback notification, I emailed him right away and asked why he did this. His response was they didn't know it was us. Fair enough. I asked if he would call his bank and have the chargeback reversed, and I would issue a refund instead. He said he would. After waiting and waiting and waiting for word on the reversal I emailed him again through the swinger's site. He said he would get around to it. Another week went by, and I sent another email. They were out of town for a funeral, he said, and would do it on the Monday when they got home. Another week went by, and I sent another email... and another. No response. Now, through the swinger's site I sent the emails through, you can tell if the person has even opened the emails (he hasn't). You can also see the last time the person has logged in, which they do daily. So, they're basically ignoring my emails now.

Now, I don't understand why a fellow webmaster and his solo-girl model wife would do this. Should I just chalk it up as a lesson learned? Perhaps join their site and charge it back? Maybe get a dozen of my friends to do the same? What would you do?

HMMMM, that is crazy. I would gander a guess but I will not on the board. It's about time for another Tampa party. Trying to get something going next month. Will hit you guys up.

Join theirs and charge back. You've obviously tried hard enough to give him a refund, he doesn't seem to be bothered to give a fuck about you.

From what I understand of chargebacks, you can reverse it but the fact that a chargeback was made will stay on your file, so the damage is done and can't be removed from my understanding (the damage being a chargeback will appear on your company).

I wouldn't trust him with my wife after that!

Sly 10-31-2005 08:10 PM

Just write him off as another asshole member and write him off as a possible shoot member. Wasting too much time on this guy would be pretty silly, it would be a "waste". :-)

I'm sure there are two sides to the story. Maybe they thought you tried fucking them, as you refunded them but didn't stop the rebill? Anyway, I'm not trying to side with them on this. But I mean, you fucked up on not canceling the rebill. So you have no room to be all upset with them and "call them out".

Everyone makes mistakes, live with it. It'll make life alot easier!

I never tried fucking them over... in fact, I refunded their initial membership and still gave them access. It wasn't until 30 days later that the "problem" occurred when it rebilled. I understand the chargeback, believe it or not... they didn't know who the descriptor was on their statement. I am fine with that. It's what's happened since then that I don't understand.

I sent an email to them on October 2, and they replied back that they would have it reversed.
On October 11, I sent them another email. They replied and said they would call their bank right away.
I emailed again on October 13. They said they were away for a funeral and would call on Monday the 17th.
I emailed again on October 19. No reply.
I emailed again on October 29. No reply.
I emailed again today. No reply.

Just let it go. Unless you process a very small # of transactions, 1 CB shouldn't hurt you too much.

No matter what, the CB will still be on file.

iwantchixx 11-01-2005 01:31 AM

You fucked up, he charged back, let it go. People have so little time ont heir hands to worry about calling someone over $20.

pradaboy 11-01-2005 01:36 AM

That's harsh man, he's fucking with your CB ratio

emthree 11-01-2005 01:38 AM

Get 100 of your friends to sign up and charge back

DutchTeenCash 11-01-2005 02:59 AM

pussyluver 11-01-2005 03:16 AM

Assume you did kill the membership???? No pay, no play... If you didn't drop is userID PW, now is high time.

phonesex 11-01-2005 03:46 AM
