AWStats - Do you have any good/bad experience with them?

I'm thinking of getting them installed on my servers.

What do you guys think about it: http://awstats.sourceforge.net/

This thread is a follow up on this one: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=534321

If you have any other suggestions feel free to speak your mind!

seeing as 95% of all my traffic is SE it sucks as they dont break down the se referrers and keyphrases enough for me. :2 cents:

The do show SEs, keyphrases and keywords. But they don't show you which keyword was used on which SE. Is that it?

It's still better then Webalizer (my current stats).

But thanks for your input. :)

Anybody else?

http://www.13scripts.com SE.php for Search Engine stats... I modified mine to do other shit...

As for Awstats,
http://www.frsirt.com/exploits/20050...ts_shell.c.php
http://www.blogherald.com/2005/02/03...t-downs-blogs/
http://packetstorm.linuxsecurity.com...loits/awexpl.c
http://www.hacker.org.tw/?c=articles...articleid=1319

I'd use something else...

Thurbs 10-31-2005 04:10 PM

awstats is the shit imo, and yah it shows referring keywords and se :)

tranza 10-31-2005 04:25 PM

Shit. I guess AWStats is out then.

Any other suggestions.

Don't put the awstats.pl in your cgi-bin. Just have awstats generate static pages from a cronjob, then you don't have to worry about those exploits.

to bad it doesnt show which engines those keyword phrases came from, which is very important to me, there are many better optins available

awstats is the bomb, I highly recommend it over webalizer

darksoul 11-01-2005 05:59 AM

the SE thing bothers me too.
Other than that its a pretty good program.
As for the exploits for awstats, c'mon, you shouldn't have your
stats open to public in the first place.

Comparing what I've gotten with two different hosting packages, Wusage kicks all over AWStats in terms of giving me the info that is important to me.

Marshal 11-01-2005 08:19 AM

awstats is better than webalizer definitely! ;)

xfalmp 11-01-2005 09:00 AM

I wouldn't go with it.

I always liked it and preferred it instead of the ugly Webalizer, but when it comes down to heavy traffic, it WILL slow down your server everytime time it runs (usually once per day). That's why I switched back to Webalizer, at least it's fast and gives me the basics.

EDIT: But I'd would if you're parsing small logs, no problem with them. :thumbsup

It's better than nothing, and I prefer it over Webalizer, but it's not that great... Personally I love WUsage, but it's a little pricey.

That's what I had installed before (Wusage) but I kept getting errors and the log file would grow until it made my HD full. My log files were growing from 0 to 60Gb in a matter of hours. So I got it unistalled from my servers.

And no, I don't push that kind of traffic. I wish! Lol...
