I Got Stung By A Jelly Fish
Yesterday I decided it would be a great day to go swimming, weather was great!
Got the the beach, got into the water (it was amazing, real warm). Had been swimming for about 15 - 20mins when I just felt this unbelievable pain shoot up my arm :disgust . I looked down and saw a blue bottle! I freak out so bad! My arm swelled up in a funny pattern. Lucky I didnt have any of its tentacles still on my arm. I didnt know what to do so we (partner and I) jumped in the car drove half way out of town looking for a docs or something, being a sunday nothing was open:( So back into town we went. I ran up the the surf club and the looked after me, pouring freezing cold water over my arm then putting ice on it. The pain didnt go away for about 20mins, it was horrible! Has anyone ever been stung by a jelly before? |
pee on it
|
blue bottle? sounds like a "man-o-war" instead of a jelly fish
|
hahaha I got told that today...How was I going to pee on my own arm? I really couldnt do it, nor could I let someone else lol. :helpme

If it wasnt a PORTUGESE MANOWAR - who cares...
|
i have been stunged by a jelly a few times. ( blue ones ) They just pour fresh water over the bite and that does the trick.
|
Yeah cold water and god it hurt!
|
had that happen to me when i was around 12... i dont know what kind it was, i came out of the water so fast that it fell off... hurt like hell.
|
we just rub wet sand on the part that got stung.
|
yeah I got stung by a brownish jellyfish in New Brunswick....wasnt THAT bad although its really not pleasant hehe...some local guy told me to put some moist sand on it, it did in fact help...
The jellyfish was small though so I was told thats why it wasnt so bad... |
My partner had to park the car and I didnt tell him where I was going for some help I just kinda ran:P.. So he was walking around trying to find me and he saw this lil tacker with blood on his tummy, he had been stung as well but it got him real good, another person he saw had been stung and she was having fits and stuff, thank god I didnt see that.
The guys at the surf club told me that the wind had changed and it was brining them all in and heaps of people where getting stung... |

Be glad it wasn't a box jellyfish.
How do you live in AUS and not know what your dealing with? |
Vinagar and or Urine Does indeed work it takes the sting away. Ive been stung. doesn't bother me that much it's a burning sensation like a wasp sting.
|
Ive never really been a beach girl, I used to live down in Victoria the cold part of Aust, so swimming at the beach was something that happened maybe 2ce every year, so being stung by a jelly wants really a worry. I guess I should have read up on them when I moved to Queensland, silly me:(
I just read up about a Box jelly just then, thank god I didnt get stung by one! |
many times since Ive lived near the ocean all my life, it sucks... theres stuff to put on it but it still itches like hell
|
There are lots of jelllyfish off Malibu. I have been stung a couple of times on the back of my knee. It was a little painful, but the areas never got swollen...just red and itchy.
Each time, I saw seaweed, but no jellyfish. They are sneaky little devils. |
They sure are sneaky, I didnt even see mine untill it had stung me, then I hit it:P
I cired lol, I was so scared I was going to die. ROFL |

this is sooo stupid. how about a glass or a mug? pee on it then pour it on your arm. |
Even if I would pour someone pee on my stinging arm, Id have to find someone to pee and to pour, I wouldnt be able to do it. Also we didnt have anything like that on the beach, although in the car we had bottles:P
Would you let someone pee on you? |

you just didn't like the ideea of having piss on your arm, not that you didn't find something to pee on. you should have done it in your hand for example. wait ! we know: you never got soaked when you washed your pussy. |
Oohhh Kayla :( You're my friend, I would have pee'd on you :thumbsup :upsidedow

Try scuba diving and coming up right underneath one ... it's not your arm or feetsies that get the sting!
btw, as someone else pointed out - it was probably a man-o-war, not a jellyfish. But I guess that's irrelevant now :) |
I've been stung a few times. Nothing major though poison wise. Just got some red swelled lines like really bad scratches which burned and itched for a few hours.
Though last time I was in the carribean, there were man o wars washing up on alot fo the beaches. Some while we were swimming in the waters. Pretty scary. Here is a pic of one that washed up on the beach. http://goddam.net/manowar.jpg |
you want me to pee on it?
|
FYI: The toxin secreted from the tentacles of the Portuguese Man-Of-War are about seventy-five percent as powerful as cobra venom.
