Movies like Troy and Kingdom of Heaven...

which do you recommend? the only movies i really like are mob movies and epic movies about actual history like those i named...what are some other tight ones like those?

subVERSION 10-31-2005 12:09 AM

Both were great. But missing the "epicness" if you ask me.
Very few reach their potential.

well maybe epic was the wrong word to use, i was just trying to describe that "genre" of movies if ya know what i mean...

SilentKnight 10-31-2005 12:14 AM

Troy was far superior to Kingdom of Heaven IMO

Neither can touch Braveheart or Gladiator, though - also my :2 cents:

SilverTab 10-31-2005 01:02 AM

Isnt Troy more like a legend than "actual history"???

anyway...I saw Alexandre not too long ago, thought it wasn't bad...(yeah yeah I know a lot of homo scenes and blah blah..but I don't really care, I can live with that)...overall, not bad...

The Ghost 10-31-2005 01:10 AM

1.Saving Private Ryan
2.Braveheart
3.Gladiator
4.Glory

King Arthur is pretty good.

:2 cents:

SilverTab 10-31-2005 01:14 AM

On a different note...I reallllly liked Robin Hood...the one with Kevin Coster...haha I watch it like 2 or 3x a year...everytime I catch it on TV, I just can't help it..have to watch it...

Dancing with the Wolves wasnt bad eighter!....too bad Kevin Coster didn't do anything good lately though hehe...

dunefield 10-31-2005 04:46 AM

henry v...

gangbangjoe 10-31-2005 04:48 AM

i really liked kingdom of heaven...

i refused to watch troy because of pitt brad <-- sound stupid doesn't it :1orglaugh

Wiggles 10-31-2005 05:06 AM

don't watch Alexander, it is pure crap, not because of any gay scenes, but just due to horrible acting.

SilentKnight 10-31-2005 11:34 AM

Also check out John Boorman's Excalibur (1981) - if you ain't seen it yet, its one of the better medieval period flicks.

(look for Patrick 'Capt Picard' Stewart in a bit role, heh)

Troy was based on the Iliad, and most certainly is not actual history. Unless you believe the Greek gods in the past actually interfered in wars.

Pornwolf 10-31-2005 11:48 AM

Alexander was pure shite. Fruit flavored shite.

Troy was good, if only for the scene where Brad Pitt was going up the steps anihillating the army.

Kingdom of heaven was really good from a historical standpoint. The special features on the DVD make it the best rental of the three.

Project-Shadow 10-31-2005 12:12 PM

Alexander / LOTR and that series ROME on HBO.

that's funny cuz i remember thinking the same shit...but he's actually a pretty good actor sometimes...

potter 10-31-2005 02:20 PM

Watch BoB (band of brothers) marathon style (all 10 episodes right after each other). They are an hour long each, so it takes about 12 hours (including bathroom and food breaks).

It'll change you for sure, it is quite an experience

Sometimes? The guy is brilliant!! Fight Club, Troy, Snatch, Meet Joe Black, etc...

he just got a bad rap cause of the pretty boy look... but he's an awesome actor!

The movie Troy didn't even follow the legend. They took a brief synopsis of the legend/history and totally changed it. Read up on it, its pretty funny how the movie is so different. Either way, I really do love the movie and care very little about the legend.

The Captain 10-31-2005 02:40 PM

dont see alexander it is a horrible movie and I love epics but that one just sucked

MrIzzz 10-31-2005 02:51 PM

heres some movies you should watch, eventhough they may not fall into your criteria

apocolypse now
sparticus
ten commandments

There were no Gods or supernatural beings in the movie Troy. Achilles Odysseus and Hector were only men.

It was pretty good. Just pissed off when I saw Merlin walking around Lancelot like he was going to cast a spell to heal him or something... and he didn't do anything.

The Keira Knightly sex scene is a bonus too ;)

In Legend she was. But as you can see by the old lady that was standing there she was just a mortal woman.

pornpf69 10-31-2005 03:55 PM

Spartacus is awesome!

tristan_D 11-01-2005 06:37 PM

wargames 11-01-2005 07:39 PM

I'll second the LOTR Trilogy, especially the extended editions.......but I won't second Alexander.

PixeLs 11-01-2005 08:59 PM

You can disregard Alexander on your list if you want; I did not really enjoy this one.
