Stealing other ppls ideas

i know its "just business". but if someone with a loud mouth told you everything you needed to make alot of cash, would it be wrong to take his idea and do it?

no nda or anything moral to prevent you from doing this. he would get a smaller cut of the pie now that he told me everything (since more ppl + same pie = smaller pieces)

thoughts?

well.. some people would kill you for it

Paul Waters 10-30-2005 11:36 AM

If it is not you, it will be someone else.

You would be amazed at how often it happens in this industry. Many programs were built on the ideas of another.

HorseShit 10-30-2005 11:37 AM

what idea are you talking about? it depends on the situation

Redrob 10-30-2005 11:40 AM

If you are going to discuss a project with someone, I'd have them sign a Confidentiality/Non-disclosure Agreement first.

I am sure he will be thrilled, You remember that when you end up in a ditch somewhere.

theres ONE person in particualar that everytime i open my mouth, this newbie goes & does it and promotes the hell out of it and rakes in the cash, or better yet, he'll look at what i've already DONE, make a few (and i mean VERY LITTLE) changes to it and claim it was his idea.

cant believe its got to the point in this industry where you cant even TALK about ideas anymore. heh.

bdld 10-30-2005 12:35 PM

i never share info for this very reason

NoWhErE 10-30-2005 12:58 PM

Stealing someone else's idea is completely immoral... but... alot of people are immoral.

So it comes down to a question of personnal values. Are you a moral person or not?

polle54 10-30-2005 01:22 PM

why don't you clear it with the guy and make biz with him?

Hmm I appreiciate honest people I almost never tell people with interests about potential money making oppotunities but I did it once over icq with a guy from this board and he had the last of the idea and we split 50/50.

I suggest you do the same or if your greedy go along and start making yourself a bad rep.

I have offered my resources (money, knowledge, skills, etc..) and they were not interested.

That being said, it is them who took their idea off the original person to begin with.. i would just be collaterial damage :)

yup. And make sure it has some financial teeth to it.

to be fair, which how many sales rep opened their own paysites? is it a significant %? because experience is based on working known ideas. Thus if they opened up their own site, chances are they "stole" some ideas. IMO

Ask the person whose idea it was.

If it seems like a dumb idea (to ask the person), then maybe there is no official NDA but the 'anything moral' part might not be as clear.

What would you want someone to do if the roles were reversed?

Will this burn a friendship/trust?

If their was a friendship/trust involved, are you suggesting the potential monetary return of the idea is worth more?

Is that what can be expected of you when dealing with you?

Why not get his/her blessing for you to try it out and do it with clear conscience?

This idea is currenty done by a big business, so he stole this idea from them and is currently doing it. He just opened his big mouth to me about it.

Part of the thing is that he has been telling alot of people about this, yet many just dont care unlike myself. I can hide everything so that he wont know its me, but it will affect his progress/finance. He wont go broke, but he will grow slower.

He is an acquitance, friend of a friend. the potential rewards goes upto 150k a month, with perhaps 30% recurring monthly and 40% recurring yearly.

I like to think that i rather work with you before working against you. I will do all that i can to setup a partnership. But if the reward outweights this and partnership is not a solution, i might be inclinded to compete with you. That being said, there are more than just me and him competing on this level.
