For those of you that still haven't heard from ppl in South Florida

Wilma hit like a bitch in Miami/Broward & Palm Counties.

The power has been out since Monday for most people (just got mine back). They are saying that power will not be fully restored until the 28th of November. The same applies to Phone/Internet (DSL) Lines. FEMA has been doing a great job handing out food, water & ice. It's been a rough week, but my little corner of town is starting the clean up process. I haven't ventured far from my place as most of the stoplights don't work and people are getting in accidents left and right. There is also a curfew in all of the above mentioned areas. The water is contaminated in many places (mine included) but I consider myself lucky to be alive, have electric and as of this afternoon-phone.

I'll post some photos I took later tonight. The damage is unbelievable and I don't have cable so I can't see what the rest of you see other than what is shown on the Internet.

Some cellular services don't work either because of downed towers, so this may explain why you may not have heard from your friends and fellow webmasters yet.

I hope you are all safe! :thumbsup

I had a buddy come across the alley yesterday and pickup a generator and gas from me. Its amazing how it hit the west coast first but did so much more damage over on the east coast.

I had thought about a generator, but they are costly and I don't intend on staying here that much longer. It's amazing the stupid things you come up with to entertain yourself with no power or Internet/Phone. I can't believe some ppl have to wait an entire MONTH for power to be restored. You would think S. Florida would be more prepared for the Hurricanes. Half of my complex is still out of power, it makes no sense. I filled my car up with ice and water, got home and the power was up so I went around handing it out to those without. Not sure if it's good Karma or dumb luck, but the worse thing that happened is a part of a tree flew into my car, but so many people had crushed cars.

IF ANY OF YOU KNOW ANYONE IN MY AREA THAT NEEDS ICE, A COUCH TO CRASH ON, WORKING INTERNET OR JUST TO BE ABLE TO COOK SOME FOOD, PLEASE ICQ ME AND I'LL GIVE YOU MY PHONE NUMBER AND ADDRESS SO THEY CAN TRY TO CONTACT ME VIA PAYPHONE, CELL OR WHATEVER RESOURCES THEY HAVE AVAILABLE.

another thing that still sucks is the cellphone network, it is sooo bloated with calls that it cuts you off or you get terrible reception (if you are even lucky enough to get network)

cingular/at&t are basically useless
I hear verizon and tmobile are more reliable rightnow

Nextel is horrid too during these hurricanes last year and this year. Best bet is a satellite phone, but that does you little good really if you are trying to contact others without a sat. phone.

Verizon sucks, but that might be due to my location. I haven't been able to hold a call for more than 30 seconds (if I'm lucky). If I walk about 1/2 a mile out to the commercial zone, I get great reception. :helpme

Don't forget people, my offer still stands, even if I don't know, I've been helping strangers and have no problem helping more. My favorite pizza place across the street is running on a generator if you think my cooking sucks, you have an option. lol

If power is back by your place, good chane it's at mine up the road. I left Coconut Creek to crash at Serge's place in Boca. No power as of today there as well. :(

I was hoping power would get back before I got back from Vegas. Fingers crossed.

You don't have power. I was in your area. The tiny patches of power that were restored are tiny and spread apart. You are more than welcome to one of my 3 couches. 1 is taken, 2 are still open. Since cable doesn't work, we are watching back to back DVD's. Thank god I have a decent sized collection or I would be going nuts. :helpme

Cool, thanks for the offer, we'll chill over at Serge's for the time being, hopefully power gets restored there quickly.

A note on the cell phone problems. As the towers lose electricity they auto switch to backup batteries for the most part. Once those batteries wear out which isnt very long thats it finito, until they bring in generators. They also try to bring in some mobile generator run towers that wont have as good of range. Keep your heads up things will get better. :thumbsup

Well, I'm doing a neighborhood survery to unload the rest of my extra ice to ppl without power, so I'll let you know when your area is restored, unless you find out first. I have your number. You and your girl stay safe!
