Blog/RSS Question

I've seen a few cool looking products to help automate blogging lately, but there hasn't been a lot of mention regarding the copyright implications of re-posting articles from other websites. Is there a generally accepted amount of text you can copy from an article before the "Click here to read the full article" credit?

I suppose checking the terms on a site by site basis is the best way, but just wondering what other folks are doing.

Thanks!

Typically the xml/rss feed will dictate how much text is displayed along with a link to read more. Free reprint articles allow all text to be used just keep the author credits intact :2 cents:

RSS feeds are meant to be syndicated. You can only syndicate what they place in their feeds, so unless specifically stated otherwise you can safely use them on your site. Even sites as large as CNN allow full reposting.

Most of the big sites allow syndication, but for non-commerical use. It's all in the terms.

I had one guy write me about a year ago telling me I wasn't allowed to use his feeds, because they were copyrighted. I wrote him back asking why he even had them in the first place, but his reply was just more of the same shit about how he'd sue me if I used his feeds. I figured he was an idiot so I stopped using them, and he in return stopped getting the backlinks from my site, and the traffic from people clicking through (which is how he found out about me using them in the first place). Some people just don't get it.

There is no money in RSS.
