well thats kinda bland, but id say it covers it

Hmm, yeah that pretty much defines it. However, as business have grown the duties and title of the webmaster are often shared by many. I do some of the activities there but others do other activities related to webmastering.

yep, having a well rounded portfoilio of expertise in several areas will guarantee any "webmaster" an advantage on those that can do only a few things. being a people person helps tremendouslyof course, regardless of what you do in life.

A webmaster is some fat fuck sitting infront of a computer making money and jerking off all day... or so some believe!

Webmaster = Jack of all trades, master of none.

Personally, I never liked the term. Always thought it was vague. Whenever I refer to what I do, I say something like "web site developer".

seeric 10-28-2005 09:50 AM

yep, not one single person is the best at anything. i think that you form yourself to the roles you choose yourself for , and or are chosen for.

this business is like a neverending classroom, still you always seem to have the kids who think they know it all, but still get big F's on their report cards.

to me a webmaster is someone who can function successfuly in an environment and find the ways to extract the money thats out there.

whatever skills that may take you can learn along the way, especially if you are intelligent, which i see alot of intelligent people in this biz.

When I first went to adult industry parties or shows, ppl asked what I do - I would always say "oh, I'm an affiliate - mostly cam sites", etc. The response was almost inevitably "oh, you're a webmaster."

No, I'm not.

Maybe that's the industry term for it, but back in the real world it's usually someone who maintains a site (or network) from a technical/admin angle. Perhaps they code, etc. but it's basically a propellor-head job.

Web Developer does web site coding.
Web Designer does the pretty stuff.

So I am an affiliate - my role is more marketing, SEO and yes, some development - but I haven't touched a web server or set up anything technically (ie database backend, software installs, etc.) for years. If someone in the mainstream world asks ... oh, like border security ... I say am an "Internet Marketing Consultant" :)
