Solo Site Discussion

Please don't fuck this thread up with sig spots... lets get an actual discussion going here...

So what do you guys think the best business model is for having a solo site? Is it better to do a partnership and have the girl extremely involved in her site so the rebills are amazing?

or would you rather pay the girl per shoot, have someone else do the diary entries and you own all the content of the girl.. the benefit of this business model is that even if the girl flakes, you will still own everything 100% and can still update for years to come after the girl flakes.... (assuming you're smart enough to shoot years of content in advance, something i fucked up on myself in the past)

However, with the second business model, you will not be retaining as amazingly as the first business model... but its also a lot safer... bigger companies like lightspeed can do both business models and retain amazingly of course, but i'm talking more about the smaller affiliate programs...

its not my business to point out which solo sites have flaked already and use them as examples... but we all know solo girls have a tendency to flake..hell even julia blue flaked.... doesn't mean i don't have enough content to keep updating every week for years... one of the best pieces of advice I've ever received regarding solo sites was from steve lightspeed "it's not IF they are going to flake, its when" . and that has proven true time and time again.

Sometimes i wonder if solo sites are even worth producing, you have so many different things to deal with.... the stress alone from arguing with your model once they get too greedy can make it not worth it, and on top of that you have the "so and so saw my site... can you take it down please"... lucky for me my solo girls boyfriend is a geek so i don't have to worry about drama with him regarding my site, but a lot of people have to deal with the jealous boyfriends and other bullshit that comes along with having a solo site.

so whats your take? are they worth doing for people entering the business? the thing that is really attractive about solo sites is that the start up cost is extremely low compared to starting another fully exclusive site..

what are your thoughts? what are your suggestions to people thinking of starting solo sites?

Can you explain your post in art......it's a lot more understandable :thumbsup

on a serious matter....keep things in your own hands....just look at some of
the threads this last week and you'll have the answer :2 cents:

Depends on the girl in question. If the girl is really hot, but not that reliable, shoot the content, pay her and put up the site, and move on to the next project.

But, you'll get a much better retention if the girl is actually part of the site, and you can't really fake a video chat.

There is no right or wrong answer, it depends on so many factors.

Pluses of having the girl be part of the site are things like the video chats, member requested videos and galleries, fan signs, and other personalized things like that.

Girls will always quit or flake out on you, it's just part of the deal, you learn to deal with it.

judging by the arika ames and ashley brookes drama, seems its impossible to know how the girl will act based on first impressions...

i know julia blue was a LOT different when i first started shooting her and how she is now

a hybrid mix of plan a and b would probably be best

shoot a significant amount of content first & possibly give her a chance to be involved... if she can roll with it and produces, great, otherwise keep going w/ plan b and years of updates w/o her

just make sure you've got all your legal / contract bases covered

Well initially its easier to get a model to commit if you offer up a % in the site itself- the girl sees it more as an investment in her future.

However I would never offer any models a % of the site again, even if it means losing her to another company. As soon as you do that you're answering to someone- usually someone who is completely ignorant and uninformed as to how the business runs. So you end up with a lot of explaining and complaints. Sorta defeats the purpose of working for yourself.

IMO, best solo girl strategy: All fees paid up front, will full release stating program owner has rights to images and model is responsible for X number of future shoots and shows. Obviously your up front costs go way up, but very much worth it

:2 cents:

I may be new to this biz, but i can tell you doing stuff like that turns me away from ever wanting to purchase content from you :2 cents:

MikeyFingaz 10-28-2005 01:20 AM

honeslty, i would get some input from jayman on this one... i know he has a few different viewpoints about it on both sides.

emthree 10-28-2005 01:24 AM

Honestly, I don't think partnerships are the best idea unless the contract is in your favor.
The only way I'd do a percentage based partnership is if the girl holds her weight with cam shows and member interaction.

stevo 10-28-2005 01:42 AM

I was thinking about this the other day. I would start off with a contract - X amount of photosets for X amount of money. That way she is guaranteed a certain amount of money and you are guaranteed a certain amount of content. Then if the site is successful i would work on a new contract adding bonuses or a payscale on performance. The more money the site makes the more money she makes...

sweetcuties 10-28-2005 04:19 AM

NEVER, NEVER do a solo partnership with some 18-22yr old girl. Pay them upfront and bring them back. ALL girls will flake and give problems sooner or later

After Shock Media 10-28-2005 01:20 PM

Im just gunna bump this for more talk.

i agree 100%

i hope raven riley never flakes, one of the few solo girl success stories that we NEED to work out... if not for her, i can't really think of any solo girl site that has ran for a really long time without flaking

(venus: teen solo girl site, so don't get worked up :winkwink: )

MaDalton 10-28-2005 01:30 PM

for several reasons we cannot get our girls to participate actively or work for % - so we prefer of course the strategy to shoot as much as the budget allows upfront so that the girl will not be needed anymore.

interesting fact is: the more clue people have, the less they ask for % deals - go figure :winkwink:

iwantchixx 10-28-2005 02:32 PM

You should start a site featuring your girlfriend. I'd pay to see that coochie.

Alice22 10-29-2005 09:41 AM

I bilive if you want susses with solo site, do both way. This is what i do ;)

If you shoot 200 sets of the girl, and then get read of her, its not a good bissnes.
Why?
because she will shoot for tons anather teen sites, and she wil not be exlusive to your site.
I had one realy hot gilr for solo site, and i wanted to pay for her content, but then, i found out she was on like 60-0 different paysites !!! and she has around 300 sets online.
So...
The best thing is to shoot 200 sets upfront (so the girl will not flake) + pay her every month for being exlusive to your site.

Zeina-Heart 10-29-2005 10:01 AM

it depends on the girl if she doesnt give a fuck and shes in it for the money i would own all the content if i was you but if shes serious like me i would totally let her get involved
I'm very involved with my web site, web cam, updating pictures and video BY MYSELF!, my diary, my scrapbook, lots of things plus i go on every board trying to get people to promote me i do everything i can think of, with fan sign i tried to to them very different from most girls by putting effort into them .. and now i saw like 2-3 girls starting to do the same thing as me ( piss's the fuck out of me because i hate copy cats, but i set a standard so i'll deal with that one)
anyway my point if the girls is serious its a fucking great investment, if shes not well you never know so you might as well shoot the fuck out of her because you never know when she'll up an leave...

:)
