Does Adaware & Spybot really work?

Does Adaware & Spybot really work? or do they work for the spyware, adware companies

sometimes i wonder if both the for & against spyware/adware companies are on the same team

what do you think? do you have facts that can prove they work for the better?

they both tend to crash my PC - i think its pretty infested :(

Hard to say... I use spybot daily but my other spyware zapper seems to find much more then it does

spysweeper found stuff both adaware and spybot left behind - and counterspy actually found one piece missed by spysweeper. they have 30 day free trials and maybe you'll have better luck with them. none of those 4 programs ever crashed my computer, btw.

if you want to go the 100% free route, avast seems to find spyware as well as viruses.

No..what do you really expect from freeware? Invest in a decent program

one or two programs aren't going to find everything. Each one looks for different things. Your best best is to run about 4-5 of them, keep updated virus scanner etc. I personally like to use Ad-aware, Spybot, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, Ewido, CWS. Also like to use CleanUp 4.0 to clean up left over temp crap.

microsoft anti-spyware seems to be doing the job done for me...

jscott 10-28-2005 01:08 AM

any other opinions? or facts? or evidence?

reed_4 10-28-2005 04:33 AM

I have never used those programs. :(

You could also get an anti-virus application that blocks the spyware in real time, bitdefender does for instance..
