#1) 2003 SL - 500 . about 10k miles on it, about $67,000

2) 06 m3 , fully loaded convertible ... brand new. $68,000

a car made by drivers, for drivers = m3

is 2003 the current model? If it is i'd get the mercedes.

m3's are great. Id love to have one...as a 2nd car. Everybody and his dog has a bmw (m3). Sl 500 s is a classy car.

You did mention my 2 favourite cars though (and a Viper maybe).
Having those 3 in front of my house would make me a happy man.

SL500 would be my choice.

Chicks dig a sl 500 way more and i know what im talking about hehe.

I drove both a bmw convertible and 500 sl. The 500 sl couldve gotten me laid everyday. And that was the old model! Which i happen to prefer over the new one btw.

If you go with the M3.I wouldn't recommend the smg.I have one and as fun as it was the first few months it's jerky in automode and in sport mode it shifts much to hard.It literally pounds the car under heavy throttle.

is the '03 the old body style? if so the BMW by far

SL for sure... Go to Vancouver and every 16 year old chinese kid has an M3.

Ask anyone in Vancouver and they can confirm this

neither - white is a terrible color

different color and i'd choose the m3 - more fun than the merc

the MB will hold it's value better if that is important to you.

and has slightly higher snob appeal.

in the import auto business the BMW is mostly snickered at by those that sell them. (the running joke is "BMW" stands for "Black Man's Wish")

technologically the beemer is now behind the jap cars. not so with the MB.

i've owned both types, and drive an S class.

SL for sure.

Buying an 06 E46 M3 is a stupid move
Will devalue a few grand right out of the dealer's lot. Pick one up for 40-55.

Doesn't look like this particular MB held it's value.In 2 years it lost nearly 30%.

Driveaway price on a decently optioned SL500 is near 100g.

Who cares about new? Save the cash and buy it used.

My friend got his SL with 3000 miles on it current model year for $82k and it was starmarked. Saved $20k over new.

You buy the $68k Bimmer and you're going to have a $48k Bimmer soon enough. The best part of the depreciation has already taken place on the SL, go for the Benz and don't think twice.

The m3 ofcourse. Trust me.. Just drive in one for 10 min and you know what I'm saying.

But then take a 10 minute ride in the Mercedes. The only thing you'll be thinking about is, "why did i just waste 10 minutes in a BMW?"

The other thing is too that the M3 isn't a fair comparison to the SL500.

The M3 is more akin to a CLK55 AMG Convertible.
