Credit card fraud all time high?
 

I was at a gas station yesterday filling up when I had to go inside to pay with my debit card. THe guy asked for ID and I mentioned how inconvenient it is to not pay at the pump. To which he replied, "We had over $300 in charge backs last week, so we have to check all IDs now." WOW.

And last week my local dunkin donuts stopped taking credit cards altogether because of fraud and charge backs. Since I never carry cash that morning coffee will be missed.

Man what is going on - even the "physical world" is seeing a rash of fraud. Is the end near? :Oh crap

many pumps in so cal require your zip code to authorize. seems like an easy solution :)

Wow, I wasent aware you could charge back gas.

all metrocard machines in nyc now require you to enter zip code effective a few days ago

webmasters beaware of carders its getting crazy

they always ask for a zip or pin now..my shell credit card just bypasses all of that.which is convinent for me but if someone stole my card they could charge tons of shit.

ppl are foolish if they use debit cards now..
someone can capture ur pin and voila, ur bank account is closed

Yeah some time ago a lot of people drove off after pumping gas in Holland, they couldnt even fight them or charge them later. That changed now thought.

$300 worth of chargebacks would definitely hurt a petrol station. In AU the profit for them is only a few cents per litre, assuming it's something like 10c US per gallon profit then they'd have to sell 3000 more gallons just to recoup that loss.

I once went to a station to fill up at about 11pm. The guy said at that time of the night I had to leave my CC at the desk before I filled up. I expressed my 'concern' about leaving a CC in someone else's possession and he came back saying there were cameras to record him doing anything wrong. Yeah, I bet someone at head office reviews the security tapes of ALL stations every day! :1orglaugh I said no thanks, and went to another station that let me pay post-fillup.

If your debit card has visa or mastercard logo on it, you have the same protection as a regular visa card.

I don't believe in "credit" - funny that my whole business is based on use of credit cards but - its not something I've ever believed in.
