eBay Bans All Online Payment Services Except PayPal!

This won't make them popular! They revised the TOS to include sections that boil down to them only allowing PayPal for online payment. Western Union, Moneygram and other online services are not allowed to be offered at auctions anymore.

Shitty deal IMO, maybe Google will start an auction site so they can build the Google Wallet services.

Not shocking at all.

Theo 10-26-2005 05:31 AM

I think they are crazy to do that.

Ace-wtf 10-26-2005 07:29 AM

google is going to crush these guys

Basic_man 10-26-2005 07:30 AM

It's only a rumor... And yes, Google will probably build something like eBay one day.

warlock5 10-26-2005 07:30 AM

This is actually good for their competition.

Is anyone really surprised? Corporate philosophy these days takes exactly zero consideration of what customers want - they know they have a monopoly and their huge hardcore fan-base won't be going anywhere. It's just milking more profits, as always.

pawsregd 10-26-2005 08:04 AM

Saw that coming

Vitasoy 10-26-2005 08:20 AM

Ebayers have no choice but to follow suit

~Ray 10-26-2005 08:20 AM

no more WU/BidPay scammers

DateDoc 10-26-2005 08:34 AM

While it may make them more money in the short run it is bound to hurt them in the long run. Just wait for a few BIG PowerSellers to get their PayPal account locked down because a few people complained and then there 1000s of running auctions have no way being completed.

Sosa 10-26-2005 08:38 AM

Might as well keep the money into your own companies. Ebay Fees, Paypal Fees, might as well take it all.

Elli 10-26-2005 09:58 AM

Maybe they lost their merchant account. ;)

it's a good thing, too many scammers used other online payment sources.

Also, most people pay with paypal or mail a money order/check anyway.

RawAlex 10-26-2005 12:55 PM

That makes ebay now totally useless for selling domains - I would never sell a domain any other way except for escrow.com with the 1 day view period. Too many easy simple ways to stiff someone with paypal.

My forecast: expect ebay stock to rise slightly, then start a slow but steady fall down to about half the current price as the number of sellers and buyers diminish with these new rules.

you can't stiff someone with paypal. i've disputed 3 claims with them in the pass and got my money back on all. once you report someone to paypal for not shipping they freeze the other persons account and they also have access to that persons checking/cc to refund back any money too.

phonesex 10-26-2005 01:09 PM

shiiiiiittttt

well eBay owns paypal so if paypal locked down an account on a PowerSeller then they'd be shooting themselves in the foot.. Won't happen.

I beg to differ, if someone cleans out their account immediately they cannot take any action. I've lost money this way at least three times so don't tell me you can't get stiffed with PayPal.

adultchica 10-26-2005 01:19 PM

Paypal/Ebay is greedy and to me they are a monopoly. They will do what they can to stamp out all the competition. They lose a lot of business that way.

aleck 10-26-2005 01:24 PM

milking max profits. absolutely normal practice. they are selling their stocks anyway
